Wellbeing

This fortnight, at St Margaret Mary’s, we are focusing on the character strength of Humour.

Humour is the ability to bring joy to ourselves and others through kindness, positivity and laughter. It means seeing the lighter side of life and finding reasons to smile, even when situations may be challenging or stressful. Humour helps us maintain a positive outlook and reminds us that there is always hope, even during difficult times.

Importantly, humour is not about laughing at others or being disruptive. Rather, it is about using kind and respectful laughter to help people feel included, valued and happy. A warm smile, a cheerful attitude or a gentle joke can brighten someone’s day and strengthen the sense of community around us.

Humour also plays an important role in building positive relationships. Sharing laughter can bring people together, strengthen friendships and help teams remain resilient when facing challenges. When we create moments of joy, we contribute to a welcoming, supportive and caring environment for everyone.

As people of faith, we are reminded that joy is a gift from God. In Proverbs 17:22, we read:

“A joyful heart makes for good health.”

This scripture teaches us that joy and laughter can strengthen our hearts, uplift our spirits and help us live with gratitude and hope.

Throughout the fortnight, we encourage all students to use humour in thoughtful and positive ways. By sharing kindness, joy and laughter, we can help make St Margaret Mary’s a place where everyone feels connected, supported and valued.
