Assistant Principal's Message

Student Learning Conferences

Student, parent, and teacher learning conferences will be held Monday 22 – Wednesday 24 June. Bookings open via Compass on Tuesday 9 June.

These conferences are an opportunity for students to revisit their Term 1 goals, reflect on their progress, and identify next steps in their learning. Please book your conference as soon as bookings open.

This year, specialist teachers will also have booking slots available, so families can connect and engage in learning conversations across specialist subject areas.

Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass — Friday 12 June

The Feast of the Sacred Heart will be celebrated at Mass in the church at 11:30am. The whole school community is warmly invited to join together in prayer and celebration as we honour this special feast day.

Our Community, Our Responsibility

It is important that we address this directly: in recent weeks, members of our community have been subjected to inappropriate language from both students and adults that does not align with our values or the partnership principles we hold as a community. This is not acceptable.

Every member of our school community deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We ask families to reinforce this message at home. Concerns are always best raised through respectful conversation,  we are here to work with you, and we ask the same of one another.

As parents and carers, we are our children's first and most influential role models. Children learn not only from what we say but from what we do. The language they hear, the way we respond to challenges, and the respect we show others all contribute to the values and behaviours they develop.

Every family has its own expectations and standards at home. However, at St Margaret Mary's, we explicitly teach and expect respectful language and behaviour from all members of our community. We ask parents to support this expectation by reinforcing with their children that swearing and disrespectful language are not acceptable at school and are not conducive to positive relationships in wider society.

Our staff and students deserve to work in an environment where they feel safe, valued and respected. Just as we ask teachers to treat every child and family with dignity and respect, we ask that the same courtesy be extended to our staff.

In partnership,

Anthony Matthews
