Physical Education Focus

Physical Education Report – Double PE!
What an exciting term for PE in 2026, with students currently receiving two PE lessons a week.
In PE with Geoff students in Grades 3 – 6 learning how to push a shot, run over hurdles and will soon be looking at high jump techniques. Anna (our second PE teacher) has also focussed on some track and field skills, teaching classes how to throw a discus and how to change a baton as part of a circular relay team.
Grades 4 – 6 have been busy putting this learning into practise by participating in the House Athletics Carnival, more to come on that later. At school, students have been taking part in 60m hurdles time trials, and later this term they will also participate in high jump trials. Congratulations too to those who made it through to the District and Darebin Division cross country races.
As part of PE with Anna the students in Grades 3 & 4 have been learning some of the skills and strategies used in netball. Meanwhile, the Grade 5 and 6 students have been practising their volleyball skills and applying them in modified volleyball games.
With Geoff the Foundation – Grade 2 classes are busy developing the fundamental motor skills of catching and throwing. The students have been using lots of different pieces of equipment and rotating around a variety of stations to help improve their catching and throwing techniques.
Anna has continued to play lots of movement games with the Foundation – Grade 2 students to help improve their gross motor skills and to give them opportunities to be active in fun and varied ways.
House Athletics Carnival Success
Not even the slightly wet and cold conditions at Collingwood Harriers could dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of our Grade 4 – 6 students last Tuesday as they participated in the school’s House Athletics Carnival. This event is a great way to give students the opportunity to be active and compete in a fun and safe environment. Everyone who participated in events scored house points and all these points will be added up to determine an overall winner.
Track and field is a multi-disciplined event with students being able to choose from a range of different events in which they would like to participate.
- Throwing events – shot put and discus
- Jumping events – long jump and high jump (being held at school later this term).
- Short and long-distance running races – 60m hurdles, 100m, 200m and 800m.
