Principal's Report

Colour Fun Run
Last Friday’s assembly was one to remember. Our PE Captain, Siena, together with Jarrah and Saskia from Year 6, officially launched our Colour Fun Run, which included a demonstration of what to expect with the coloured powder.
This is the first time that we have organised a Colour Fun Run at our school and excitement is already building. On Monday morning, we announced the first student selected to slime the principal – congratulations to Ivy W. from 3C. Ivy was randomly chosen from the group of students who had registered and received donations by Monday morning.
Students have been enthusiastically offering advice about what I should wear for the ‘sliming ceremony’. Suggestions so far include “your best suit” and bringing a full change of clothes for the trip home.
Visit the FPS Colour Fun Run website to register, fundraise, and find out more about how you can slime me.
- Date: Thursday 25 June (second last day before the end of term)
- Time: 1:45 - 3:30pm
- Location: School grounds
- Who is participating? All students are invited to take part in the run.
- Are parents invited to watch? YES!
- Will we need parent volunteers? YES! Details to follow.
- How are the funds being used? For the redevelopment of the yard (see below).
Fundraising & the Yard Redevelopment
We have received official approval for the redevelopment of our yard from the VSBA! We are delighted to get the green light on this project after years of planning and waiting.
Warrandale Industries have been appointed to carry out this work. The proposed timeline is for the works to start during the term three holidays, ready for completion by the start of 2027. I will meet with Jeavons (landscape architects) and Warrandale in the next couple of weeks, and will share relevant details through the newsletter.
2026 is a big year of fundraising, and by (hopefully) raising our projected total of $100,000, we will be able to include all tender options in the yard development (refer to the architectural drawing below for details).
- The Mother’s Day & Special Person’s Breakfast was the first event to get our fundraising thermometer off the mark, with nearly $2,000 raised.
- You can track how much is being raised in the FPS Colour Fun Run on the event website.
- Trivia Night tickets sales (plus silent auction bids) as well as funds raised from ART FOR ALL will all go towards the yard redevelopment.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the school in helping us provide the final piece of the yard jigsaw.
Students Access to E-Books!
In more exciting news, we have extended our range of books to students by introducing e-books at FPS! We are a community of readers and the Sora platform (Welcome to SORA!) is a fantastic resource containing thousands of ebooks and audiobooks.
There is something for everyone. We encourage you to find time to visit Sora with your child and see – and listen – to what is available.
Thank you to our librarian, Paula, for coordinating this implementation, paid for through parent contributions to the library fund.
Details were communicated on how to access the library via Compass last week. Students brought home on Friday a paper copy of their unique sign-in details. Happy reading!
Semester One Reports
Due to the industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union, full descriptive comments will not be included in Semester 1 reports. Progression points will be provided, and we look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you at the upcoming parent-teacher interviews, held early in term three.
Curriculum Day on Friday
This Friday we have the third of our five curriculum days. The focus for the day is supporting staff with professional conversations. This is work led by the Department of Education, supporting school staff to:
- Understand and implement restorative approaches that strengthen relationships with parents, carers and other adults in the school community.
- Build staff resilience and confidence using de-escalation and disengagement skills, informed by trauma-informed and restorative practices.
Students are not to attend school on this day. TeamKids will be open for the day.
Principal’s Morning Tea – Friday 5 June
Every term, I host a morning tea in the staff room after drop-off and all parents are invited to pop by. This is an opportunity to find out what is happening aro the school, ask questions and learn more about FPS. This term's morning tea is on Friday 5 June, from 9 – 10am in the staff room.
School Tours
I have conducted half of the 16 scheduled school tours. I have enjoyed showing our visitors around the school in small groups. It is fabulous to see and hear how productive our students are when we visit every classroom.
If you have children ready to start school next year, please submit an enrolment form. All enrolment forms are due by Friday 31 July.
A Note from Emily King
Emily, who is currently completing her mentorship program at FPS, shares her reflections and gratitude following the success of the House Athletics Carnival.
House Athletics
Our Year 4–6 House Athletics event last Tuesday at Collingwood Athletics Track was a tremendous success, with students demonstrating enthusiasm, strong performances, and a wonderful willingness to participate throughout the day. A sincere thank you to Geoff for his exceptional organisation and leadership in coordinating the carnival; his work ensured the event ran smoothly and was enjoyable for all. We also extend our appreciation to the staff and families who supported the day, and to the Parade College students who assisted with the events. It was a fantastic community occasion that showcased participation, teamwork, and school spirit.

Enjoy the rest of your week and I will see you around the grounds!
