Overview of each Term 2 session per level:

😊 PREP

The Prep session covered the importance of making clever screen time choices and using devices in positive and balanced ways. Students were reminded to:

  • have clean hands,
  • keep food and drinks away,
  • never leave devices on the floor,
  • carry devices carefully with two hands,
  • and make clever choices about where devices are used.

Students learnt that screens can be used to Create (build worlds in games, take photos, make songs…), Connect (call family and friends…), and Learn (discover facts about animals, practise reading, numbers…

The BIG message from the session was:

⭐“Watching is okay, but there’s more we can do.” - they’re tools for creativity, connection, and learning. Watch their song Create, Connect, Learn

😊 YEAR 1/2

The Year 1/2 session covered hilarious skits, catchy songs and interactive activities, so students could learn important lessons about staying safe, healthy and balanced online.

Some of the BIG messages from the session included:

⭐ Listening to our body’s “early warning signs” when something online doesn’t feel right

⭐ Speaking to a trusted adult for help and support

⭐ Learning the bedtime reminder:  “1 hour before dream time, finish up your screen time!”

⭐ Exploring calming bedtime routines like reading, drawing, music and mindfulness

⭐ Balancing screen time with green time. Check out their song: Screen Time & Green Time

⭐ Practising fun ways to switch off from devices, including The “Pretzel Twist” and Five-finger breathing

⭐ There are many wonderful “green time” activities including soccer, lego, reading and even cooking!

😊 YEAR 3/4

The Year 3/4 session was packed with humour, music and important conversations about healthy digital habits. From pickleball jokes and cup-song tutorials to online gaming dilemmas, students were highly entertained while learning how to build positive and balanced online behaviours.

Through the stories of Ava, Noah and Zoe, students explored how too much screen time can sometimes affect sleep, mood and emotions, friendships and face-to-face connections and plenty more!

Some of the BIG messages from the session included:

⭐ Sleep is important for a healthy mind and body

⭐ “1 hour before dream time, finish up your screen time!”

⭐ Online activities can make us feel both comfortable and uncomfortable emotions

⭐ It is important to notice how screen time makes us feel and “switch it up” when needed. Check out Carly’s song related to this Bring the Balance Back (Cup Song) - Adventures Online

⭐ Balancing Screen time with Green time helps us build healthy habits

**** One of the biggest takeaways from the session was the reminder that technology can be fun, creative and educational - but balance matters! Students were encouraged to “switch it up” by making time for movement, hobbies, friendships and healthy sleep routines alongside their online activities.

😊 YEAR 5/6

The Year 5/6 session covered real-life scenarios, humour, music, and thought-provoking discussions, so students could follow the experiences of Theo and Eevee. These characters navigated friendships, gaming, social media, notifications, and the challenge of balancing screen time with everyday life.

Some of the BIG messages from the session included:

⭐Screens are not the enemy - but balance is essential

⭐ Sleep matters… a lot… 1 hour before dream time = finish screen time

⭐Screens can disrupt sleep by keeping the brain alert and delaying rest

⭐Lack of sleep impacts focus, memory, mood, energy and learning

⭐Screens can be hard to put down as digital platforms are designed to keep us engaged

⭐The need to take charge of tech use including:

  • Setting screen time limits or timers
  • Turning off notifications at night
  • Creating a screen-free bedtime routine (reading, music, podcasts, relaxing activities)
  • Keeping devices out of bedrooms
  • Making intentional choices about when and how we use technology

⭐Creating balance of device use and real-world activities (Screen time vs Green time)

WHAT’S NEXT???

Continue the conversation at home!
