Principal Team Update

Dear Beaumaris Primary Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the 2026 school year! It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces returning through the gates as we begin another exciting year together. Grace, Keli and I have enjoyed visiting classrooms and listening to students share their holiday adventures. It has been a joy to hear about the many experiences they enjoyed over the break. The opportunity for students to take photos with the 2025 Year 6 mural has also been a particularly popular way to mark the start of the year.

As previously communicated, we will be sharing a revised school calendar this year. This streamlined calendar will be included with our newsletter, with any changes clearly marked as ‘New’ or ‘Updated’ in red. This change has been made in response to feedback from our parent community, and we hope it supports clearer communication moving forward.

On Tuesday the 11th of February, we will hold our Student Leadership Induction Investiture Assembly. Our 2026 Student Leaders will formally commence their roles, working closely with students and staff to continue improving our school. Over the past two years, the Principal Team has worked in partnership with students to strengthen student voice and agency. As a result, we have been able to prioritise and action a number of key initiatives raised by students, including:

  • New student toilets
  • The return of the school chickens
  • New playground spaces

We have already met briefly with our 2026 student leadership team, who have shared exciting ideas for the year ahead, including another colour run, a cake or slice stall, a larger bike shed, more drink taps/newer drink taps, a drink station on the oval and increased shaded areas and trees in the yard. We will be featuring regular updates from our student leaders in our newsletter this year.

Toward the end of last year, we were pleased to be notified that Beaumaris Primary School was successful in securing an additional grant for upgrades to our hall toilets. While this does not include a new hall, it will significantly improve facilities within our existing space. I will continue to keep the community informed as this project progresses. This funding brings the total investment in key maintenance from the Department of Education to just over $3 million over the past 12 months.

School life is already in full swing. Our Year 5 students are heading off to Sovereign Hill camp tomorrow, followed by the Year 6 Surfing and Snorkelling Camp in Merricks next week. Students in Years 1, 2 and 4 will soon commence the School Swimming program, and our Prep students have settled beautifully into their first week of school. We are very proud of how quickly they have adapted to school life.

The 2026 Parent Payments and Voluntary Contributions are now live on Compass. Information regarding these payments was shared with families via letter late last year. These contributions play an essential role in supporting the wide range of opportunities we are able to provide for our students, and we are grateful for the ongoing support of our school community.

Next week, we will be holding our You Tell Us Interviews and the Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing Information Evening. These events provide an excellent opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and connect with the Principal Team, while gaining insight into teaching, learning and wellbeing at Beaumaris Primary School.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Warm regards,

David, Grace, Keli and Peggy
