Year 4 News

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 4. We hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the term. It has been lovely to see the students so engaged in their learning, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and care for one another as our classroom routines continue to strengthen. Thank you for joining us at the Meet & Greet. It was wonderful getting to know each child through a parent’s lens and beginning this important partnership between home and school.
E-Safety Incursion Webinar
Students participated in an e-safety webinar focused on building safe and responsible online habits. This session supports students to understand how to stay safe, be respectful, and make positive choices when using digital spaces.
Life Saving Victoria – Mega Beach Day (Sandridge Beach)
Our excursion to Sandridge Beach saw students take part in Life Saving Victoria’s Mega Beach Day. Students engaged in hands-on learning about beach safety, water awareness, and teamwork, a valuable experience for all students.
Literacy
As readers, we have been building our reading stamina, learning how to read for longer periods of time with focus and purpose. Together, we discussed what reading stamina is (engaged, settled reading) and what it isn’t (rushed or distracted reading). As a class, we have been charting our progress and setting goals to extend our independent reading time. This supports students in deepening comprehension and developing confidence as readers.
Faith Learning
As members of our faith-filled community, students have been learning about prayer, sacred spaces, and symbols. Students created a calm prayer space, contributed meaningful symbols, and wrote personal blessings or reflections. They explored what prayer is and why people pray, learning about different types of prayer (thanksgiving, asking, sorry, and praise). We also practised simple rituals and reflected on how symbols help us focus and connect spiritually.
Home Learning
Home Learning begins this week. Children will receive Home Learning each Monday, due the following Monday. Students are expected to engage in nightly reading, spelling, diary completion, and additional Maths and Literacy tasks. Answers will be provided in the weekly newsletter. We kindly ask families to mark the learning with your child each week and initial once completed. Thank you for your continued support.
