Year 3 News

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 4!
A heartfelt thank you to all of our parents and families who attended the recent Meet & Greet sessions. It was wonderful to connect and begin building strong partnerships to support your children’s learning. Your time, openness, and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated. We value working together to create a positive and engaging classroom community.
Beach Excursion – Learning About Water Safety
On Thursday, we participated in an excursion to Sandridge beach as part of our learning about water and beach safety. Thank you LSV for giving us real-life opportunities to understand how to stay safe in and around water.
Students learned about:
- Recognising safe and unsafe swimming areas
- The importance of swimming between the flags
- Understanding beach signage and warning signals
- Basic surf and water awareness
As faith-filled people, our recent learning has centred on unpacking prayer — exploring why we pray, different types of prayer, and how prayer helps us grow closer to God. It has been a special time of reflection and connection. The students have shown thoughtfulness and reverence as they share their prayers and contribute to our sacred space.
As readers, we have been focusing on what it means to be engaged, independent readers. A key part of this has been building our reading stamina — learning to read for longer periods of time while maintaining focus and understanding.
Students have been:
- Setting personal goals for independent reading time
- Practising sustained, uninterrupted reading
- Reflecting on their reading habits and progress
- Choosing “just right” books that interest and challenge them
It has been wonderful to see students developing confidence and pride in their reading. We encourage families to continue supporting regular reading at home, as even a small amount of daily reading makes a big difference.
Home Learning
Home Learning begins this week. Students have two weeks to complete the assigned learning tasks. SMART Spelling sheets and the school diary must be brought to school every Friday for the classroom teacher to review and sign. All home learning tasks must be completed in the Home Learning workbook with relevant titles and dates. Please check the assigned due date for when the home learning workbook needs to be submitted.
