Wherever your family is from, we WELCOME you....

...to the first newsletter of 2026!

This is where you will find much of the information you need regarding events, activities and programs across the course of the year.

We warmly welcome all students and families to what promises to be an exciting year ahead, and extend a special welcome to those new to our school community. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling, eager faces and a genuine buzz around the school.

Our start-up programs are well underway in each classroom. The focus is on building the foundations for a productive learning environment by developing strong relationships and meaningful connections, and fostering a sense of teamwork among students. They support students to understand and engage with our school values, while establishing clear routines and expectations. Ultimately, the classroom start-up program is about creating safety, consistency and connection so students feel confident, supported and ready to learn before formal academic instruction begins.

Our staff are committed to providing the best possible learning experiences for every student. If you have any questions along the way, please speak with your child’s teacher.

We encourage families to stay informed by regularly checking Compass and the school newsletter. While our WhatsApp groups may share reminders, Compass and the newsletter remain the primary sources of information. If you are ever unsure, please contact the office.

2026 Annual Implementation Plan

We have identified two main Key Improvement Strategies for focus this year as we work towards the overarching goals from our Strategic Plan.  Our dedicated staff continuously focus on improving their practice to enhance the learning and wellbeing of all students. As we progress through the year, we will share more details about some of the specific actions and plans we have to help us achieve these goals.

Year 6 Captains

Our first assembly this week saw the official presentation of our Year 6 Captains to our school community with the presentation of their badges. While this group wears a badge, all of our Year 6s become school leaders, undertaking a range of leadership experiences throughout their final year such as supporting their Prep buddies, undertaking public speaking opportunities, being positive roles models to our younger students and representing our school during Interschool Sport. As Principals, one of the most rewarding parts of our job is working closely with the Year 6 cohort and watching them grow as leaders before proudly releasing them into the big, wide world and seeing and hearing about them thriving.

There will be icy poles and juice boxes for sale for $1 each from 3:45pm-4:45pm. The toilets at the bottom level of Block C will be available. The gym will be closed to the BPS community and only accessible by OSHC attendees and Banyule Hawks training. There will be cones on the oval with class names if you're looking to meet families in your child's class. While we will have bins available on the day, we ask for those attending to please help us by taking home the rubbish that is brought from home.

Parent Payment Arrangements

The Parent Payment Arrangements are now available on Compass. The ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and opportunities for our students.  The school environment and resources that we enjoy today represent the contributions made by our parent/carer community over many years. Parent contributions also enable us to employ our first aid officer, maintenance person and school librarian, three incredibly valuable people in our school community.

Thank you for you continued support, it really does make a difference!

We look forward to sharing more great BPS happenings in next week's newsletter.

See you around,

-Natalie, Sam and Claire
