We would like to welcome you all back for Term 1!
We have had a wonderful start of Term 1. All the students are settling in smoothly into their new classroom routines. The classroom teachers have worked collaboratively and endlessly to create warm and inviting classrooms and spaces for children to feel safe and comfortable. Students focused on developing strong, respectful and positive relationships with both the classroom teachers and their peers during the start-up week activities.
We are excited to have lots of fun with you all this year!
LITERACY
In Reading we have been reading picture books and examining one book over the week. This has given students the opportunity to deep dive into thinking about the purpose of stories and making connections. Some strategies we have been practising are making predictions before reading, and thinking about our favourite parts of a story. We have been loving discussing Chalk Boy and the new vocabulary of street art!

In Writing we have been focusing on recounts of our weekends and sharing events from our life. We have been planning our recounts using pictures before writing them ensuring we add details using the structure of who/what/where/when/why. Students have also been working on their handwriting daily.
NUMERACY
In Numeracy we have been learning to be good mathematicians and think about numbers in our world. We have practised skills such as turn taking when playing card games (ask your child to show you how to play snap!) and taking care of our learning tools. We have thought about numbers in our world and created birthday graphs to track our birthdays! We have begun to enhance our knowledge of time- such as the days of the week, the months of the year and discuss the activities we participate in on each day of the week.
SEL/INQUIRY
Students have participated and engaged in various activities such as setting classroom expectations, developing class Essential Agreements, creating a Zones of Regulation wall, completing their ready to learn profiles and understanding school values (Kindness, Respect, Learning Together). We have begun to delve into our Inquiry topic titled ‘Growing Older and Wiser’. Make sure you bring a photo of your child as a baby or toddler to discuss how they have grown and developed.
Reminders:
The new school start time from this year is 8.35 am in the morning. We would like to encourage you to drop your child to school at 8.35 am daily so they can participate in their Morning Circle activities which is a crucial part of their day.
We also start an intensive Phonics group at 8:50 am which is invaluable to improve student’s literacy skills.
We would like to thank all the families who booked in for ‘Meet the teacher’ meetings. This has been an opportunity for us to work collaboratively to enhance your child’s learning.
