House Captains' Report

Since the end of 2025 we have been excitedly waiting for camp week. Some of us have older siblings who went to ENPS, so we have been waiting YEARS for this opportunity after hearing so much about Year Six camp. In saying this, we only got two days at school before being sent away for camp… so we were a little bit nervous. Before we left, we did some ice-breaker and team building activities. This came in handy when we competed in the evening challenges. It was nice working with new people, and seeing everyone's personalities come out as we worked together.

One of the things we most excited (and scared) about was snorkelling. We all learn to snorkelling at camp in the training pools, this helped us feel confident and a lot of our nerves went away. Then we finally got to explore the open ocean, our nerves were back. The water was deep and dark, and so cold. Then we started to see all of the amazing sea creatures. Fish, sea stars, sea urchins, coral, octopus, sea boogers and stingrays. There were some great characters at Flinders pier. Stumpy was a large stingray with no tail, he seemed fine. Gary, was a GIANT stingray, who was literally the size of a small truck. He seemed nice, but was sleeping when we saw him. The staff were amazing. They supported everyone to be brave and have a go.

For surfing, there was a lot to learn. How to hold the board, how to walk with it, how to paddle, stand up, fall off… and before we got to any of that, we needed to get our wetsuits on. This was was difficult; and maybe the greatest challenge of Year Six camp. When we finally hit the waves… it was cold. Before long we being launched into the waves by the instructors. They were very good at their job. Almost everyone stood up, and everyone caught multiple waves. It was a great experience, especially for those of us that had never been surfing before. It wasn’t all smooth sailing. Some lucky students swallowed a heap of sea water in all the excitement. However, we always bounced back pretty quickly when things went wrong.

There were so many great activities. Being at the beach was so good, great opportunity to play, hang out chill. It felt simple and fun. Especially after the chaos of many of the other activities. Team work was absolutely needed for kayaking. It was very tricky to manage speed, direction, and avoid falling in, but we got there in the end. The instructors were always nice, we played fun games and we even got to have a play in the water once the kayaks were back on the beach.

We were pretty nervous about sleeping, and who would be in our cabins. There was tension in the room as we waited for the cabins to be announced… but this was followed by a huge sigh of relief. The teachers did an amazing job of creating our cabin groups, and we all set off to unpack our backs feeling both relieved and excited for great things to come. The first night we were very excited, so it was a little tricky to get to sleep. The second night, was maybe the best sleep of our whole lives (for most of us anyway). However, it was rudely interrupted by Ms Bevins waking us up for our final day of activities. The tension returned when Ms Trunchbull appeared at the end of the week for our final cabin inspections. Luckily everyone passed (eventually) and no one got sent to the chokey.

The one of the things we had heard most about, before camp was spotlight. There were tales of fun, mystery, Mr Smiths incredible camouflage gear and fierce competition. Spotlight is a game that is played at night, in the dark. You have a couple of minutes to hide in the wilderness, then the teachers come and try to find you. It is like MEGA hide and seek, in the dark, versing the teachers. This was a highlight for all of us. For some very stealthy students, evading Ms Ioannou and the rest of the ENPS staff was very satisfying. If you were still hiding when you heard the whistle go at the end of the game, you were a winner. It's a night to beat the teachers at their own games.

The food was fantastic. Every meal filled our tummies up, so we were always ready for action. We enjoyed pizza, bolognese, chicken schnitzel and for breakfast we got waffles!

On our final night, we all sat in our activity groups and dressed up for dinner in a theme. There were some very creative outfits, some of the themes were Day and Night, Pyjama Party, Bananas in Pyjamas, Shady and By the Beach. And some us just wore full black (ready for spotlight later on). This was a nice opportunity for all of us to get to know each other, and connect before (hopefully) an awesome finally year of primary school.

We had the absolute best time on camp, bring on Year Six 2026!
