Deputy Principal's Message

Darren Gibson

(Deputy Principal - Wellbeing & Organisation)

I wish to welcome all families back to another school year at Mother Teresa. I hope that you have enjoyed a restful and enjoyable summer break. It has been brilliant observing our students returning to school happily, and I truly look forward to another wonderful year of learning.

Child Safe Standards at Mother Teresa

Keeping children safe and well is at the heart of everything we do at our school. As part of our ongoing commitment to Child Safety, we are participating in a MACS initiative called “11 Months, 11 Standards.”

The Child Safe Standards are 11 requirements that all schools must meet to ensure children are protected, listened to and supported. They guide how schools prevent harm, respond appropriately to concerns, and build a strong culture where children’s safety and wellbeing always come first. Child Safe Standard 1 focuses on 'creating culturally safe environments where the identities, cultures and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued'.

As a Catholic school, we hold a strong moral, mission-centred and legal responsibility to safeguard the wellbeing of every child in our care. This commitment is lived out through nurturing, respectful and safe communities, where each child’s uniqueness and God-given dignity are honoured, and where all students are supported to grow, learn and flourish.

This newsletter series supports families to better understand the Child Safe Standards, why they matter, and how schools governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) are actively working to embed these standards into everyday practice, ensuring child safety remains a shared and ongoing priority.
