YEAR 9
Growing Together

Head of Year 9
Welcome to Year 9 at St Mary's Catholic College. My name is Mrs Libby Schuring, and as the Head of Year 9, it is my privilege to work in partnership with you and your children this year. With extensive experience in Head of Year roles and a passion for pastoral care and student wellbeing, I have seen the powerful impact of a collaborative approach between families and school staff on students’ academic, social, and emotional potential.
My 23-year tenure as a teacher, as well as my experiences as a mother of three (including 2 teens), navigating the complexities of raising young people, have shaped my approach to pastoral care. These experiences have deepened my commitment to building genuine partnerships and supporting students in developing key skills they need, including resilience, empathy and perseverance.
The theme for Year 9 is Growing Together, building on last year's theme of ‘Building Strong Connections’. This year, our aim is to continue to foster positive relationships with peers and staff, strengthening our sense of community and developing both individual and collective perseverance. These elements work together to support our students as they mature and engage more deeply in their learning and relationships.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's education and well-being, your first point of contact is your child's Pastoral Mentor. These details can be found on the Parent Portal. However, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me as well to share any successes or challenges your child might have. Whilst I can forward curriculum questions to appropriate staff, your first port of call for curriculum questions is your child's teacher, and further to that, the subject Head of Department.
I look forward to working closely with students and their families during this important year.
Students will be able to access their electronic timetable on Wednesday morning to help them find their Pastoral Group rooms. They will also receive a printed copy of their timetable during their pastoral group session.
Elective subject changes can be made up until the end of Week 2. Any request for a subject change must come from a parent/carer to Mr John Cahill, jcahill@cns.catholic.edu.au, our Curriculum Logistics Leader. Please understand that some elective classes are currently full, and changes may not be possible.
