Victorian Marine Ambassador Program

This year, the Environment Captains have the unique opportunity of being enrolled in the Victorian Marine Ambassador Program.

The exciting program is run by a group of passionate marine educators, scientists and outdoor educators who want to share their knowledge and experience with the next generation of environmental leaders. It has been developed by the Dolphin Research Institute to showcase to young people that “what lives around our coast is too precious to lose".

Our Environmental Captains will attend one workshop each term where they will embark on a motivational boat trip at Sorrento, attend a peer teaching training session, investigate the waterways of Elsternwick to discover more about catchments, litter and pollution and finally visit the rockpools of Mornington Peninsula to learn about coastal management.

On Thursday 14 March, the students geared up in wetsuits and flippers as they set sail on the Moonraker touring vessel. On our incredible adventure we were fortunate enough to have close encounters with a pod of dolphins and colony of playful seals in the bay as well as searching for endangered seahorses at Portsea.

It was a truly wonderful experience that had one student declaring “this is the best day of my life!” We look forward to attending our workshop next term and we look forward to sharing more about our experience at our assembly presentation.

Special thanks to Ms Beagley who connected us with the Dolphin Institute and organised the trip.
