We are learning to write a free verse poem. 

VOCABULARY

Free Verse: Free verse poems have no specific rules or patterns. They do not follow a rhyme scheme and have no specific rhythm. Free verse poems do not have a set number of syllables or words per line.

Adjectives: a describing word eg: “the large house”

Verbs: a word to describe an action eg: “the dog is running”

Adverbs: describes an action eg: “the dog is quickly running”

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Have your child choose a topic they would like to create a poem about.

Have them brainstorm words they associate with this topic including some adjectives, verbs, adverbs.

Encourage your child to create a free verse poem about their topic using some of their words they brainstormed.
