School Updates

Canteen News and Update

A reminder to all families as reported in our previous newsletter and via Compass that our canteen will be closed for the start of term 2. We are currrently undertaking a tender process for a new canteen provider. We will communicate with families once this is completed.

Science and Technology Building Update

The installation of our new Science and Technology relocatables has moved very fast and these buildings should be near completion before the start of term 2. There has been some major services work to provide the opportunity for future growth at Surfside as all of our current services were at capacity. Following the completion of this work we will have to undertake some rectification of the areas. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time.

Out and About

It has been a massive 2 weeks at Surfside since our last newsletter and there have been so many adventures for our school community. There have been learning experiences, art adventures, sporting success and so much more!! Check out some of the highlights from the last fortnight:

MoPA Foundation Excursion

Our Foundation students ventured out on their first excursion for their first school year. They headed into Geelong to MoPA (Museum of Play and Art) and engaged in a range of different activities that promote investigation and creativity. The students thoroughly enjoyed their experience and there were plenty of sleepy heads on the bus trip home.

Year 4 Camp

Our Year 4 students and staff headed to Anglesea for their Year 4 Camp. They had perfect conditions with plenty of sunshine. The students participated in a range of different activities such as hikes, hut building, bike riding, archery, mini golf, low ropes course, a night walk, a disco and AMAZING food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were so many highlights and we were so proud that the students were able to reflect on 360+ acts of kindness throughout the 3 days. We thank the staff and parent helpers for their support over the 3 days.

State Schools Spectacular

A very energetic group of year 5/6 students attended their first rehearsal for the 2024 Victorian State Schools Spectacular.  As part of the mass dance group they will learn, rehearse and perfect 8 dances over the coming months, in preparation for the performance at John Cain Arena in September. It was an awesome day and they are already looking forward to the next rehearsal at the end of April. Please check the dates on the calendar for rehearsals for next term.

Year 3-6 Surfside PS Cross Country

All of our year 3-6 students performed at a very high level during our school based cross country and it was great to see everyone representing their house colour and totem with pride. There were many outstanding performances but all of the students should be congratulated on the way they displayed our school values consistently. A big thank you to Mr Fraser and Mrs Wolfe for their organisation.

SSV District Girls Football Competition

A group of our year 5 & 6 girls participated in the Division Girls Football Championships at Belmont Common. It was an amazing day full of so many memorable moments. The girls displayed great skills on the field and were so supportive of each other and their competition. A big thank you to Mrs Wolfe for coaching the girls. It has been fantastic to see so many of our girls engaged in girls footy and we hope that they pull on the red and white for the Ocean Grove Cobras.

Year 3 Chocolate Investigation

The year 3's recently participated in a STEM chocolate investigation with lot's of fun involved in exploring reactions, STEM, art, design and creating their own chocolate bar.

Foundation-2 Easter Bonnet Parade

Wednesday was a busy day at Surfside and the morning definitely brought excitement to our foundation, year 1 and year 2 students , teachers and families as the Easter Bunny paid them a surprise visit during their Easter Bonnet Parade. Our families had gone above and beyond with so much work with hats that were adorned with eggs, chickens, bunnies and all things Easter. The students danced and paraded themselves around the courtyard (we are unsure who enjoyed themselves more the students or the teachers). A big thank you to the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 team for providing such a fun experience for the students and our school community.
