Year 7

Assistant Principal's Report

Well done to all our year 7’s for completing their first term at Wyndham Central College.

The students have certainly grown in confidence throughout the term, making new friends, working with multiple teachers each day which is different to primary school, finding their place and forging their own identity as secondary school students. The tutor teachers have certainly seen the change since the students came in as fresh faces at the beginning of the year starting off their secondary schooling adventures.

There have been a range of opportunities for our year 7’s throughout the term, including leadership positions, school and year level events, and many other activities which Ms Webster will address in her report.

A reminder that when communicating with the college, your child’s tutor teacher is the first port of call, who will then be able to refer you to the correct staff member if they are unable to assist. I hope that your child’s tutor teacher is familiar to you now and you have established a great working relationship to benefit your child.

I hope that students have a well-deserved rest over the holidays and come back ready to continue their learning journey in a busy term 2.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 7

Over the past five weeks, our journey at Wyndham Central College has seen its share of highs and lows. However, amidst the challenges and triumphs, one constant has been the resilience and determination of our Year 7 students. Despite the ups and downs, they have persevered admirably, demonstrating maturity and adaptability beyond their years. We are immensely proud of their resilience and commend them for their efforts. As we continue forward, let's draw inspiration from the perseverance of our Year 7s and face whatever lies ahead with confidence and determination.

It's been a busy term, here's a recap of the exciting events that have taken place so far:

  • Our Year 7 students kicked off their NAPLAN assessments with the Writing test. It was inspiring to witness their determination and courage as they tackled this challenge head-on.
  • Our Year 7 Meet and Greet BBQ was well attended and it was great to meet all families who joined us.
  • Students enjoyed sunny days at Eastern Beach, engaging in exploration and relaxation. Their curiosity was evident as they discovered marine life and enjoyed beach activities. Kudos to our polite and inquisitive young learners!
  • Former students Vesna Hruskar and Christian Tortorella returned to share their post-school journeys. Their inspiring stories encouraged our students to explore diverse career paths.
  • We marked a milestone with a special Middle Year’s Assembly, showcasing student leadership and honouring our school's history.
  • The Proactive Policing Unit provided valuable insights on cyberbullying, reinforcing our commitment to a safe and respectful school environment.
  • Families braved the heat to connect with teachers and celebrate our school community. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on our progress and achievements over the years.
  • Mondays start with assembly that celebrates student success, including students who attended 100% of the time the previous week and our Most Valued Pupils who received positive posts from teachers.
  • Kiara from Healthy Minds presented sessions Introduction to a Healthy Mind and Thoughts and Feelings, with a Parent Pack provided to aid in supporting students' learning.
  • Students explored the importance of reading during visits to our Learning Resource Centre (Library), fostering a culture of literacy and lifelong learning. Mrs. Cutter introduced a Book Club in the Learning Resource Centre, fulfilling a request made by students last year.

It's been a term filled with learning, camaraderie, and celebration. Thank you to our students, staff, alumni, and families for your continued support and enthusiasm.
