A Fiery Adventure with Our Local Heroes!

In the spirit of our current Inquiry unit, which delves into the world of community helpers, our Year 2 students recently had an exciting encounter with the Country Fire Authority, commonly known as the CFA. These everyday heroes embody courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding our community. Moreover, they are all volunteers. What great role models to have here at SMCM!

The CFA visit comprised of two sessions. One session involved an indoor presentation about the purpose of the CFA and the makeup of their uniform. From the sturdy boots to the reflective stripes, students learned how each piece contributes to the safety of the CFA volunteers and others. Fire safety protocols were also explored, which helped build life-saving knowledge for our students.

The second session was a winner, especially when we witnessed our Year 2 students swarming eagerly around the fire truck. They were shown the multiple compartments of the fire truck, each with its special purpose. However, nothing could beat the hose! Each of our mini-firefighters aimed at imaginary flames, dousing invisible infernos with gusto.

Let’s see what some of our SMCM firefighters had to say:

The hose was strong. It is in the fire truck. The hose is powerful. The firefighters are very strong. – Terry S

The alarm and sirens were loud. The firefighter has a strong suit. The lights on the firetruck are red and blue. – Madden D

The firefighters are brave because they have done it for a long time! – Jacob P

The CFA visit wasn’t just informative; it was a blazing adventure. It truly showcased how integral these community helpers are in our community and it sparked flames of curiosity for our young learners.
