Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

THANKYOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS

We have come to the end of a very busy term. It seems to have flown by but there was so much achieved in that time.

The Warrnambool Primary Parents Association were very active in supporting fund raising events and activities for us to enjoy at school.

Consider the following events which were not only fun but have raised money to be put towards our much needed Basketball/Netball Court and outdoor play spaces:

Colour Run, Zooper Dooper Days, House Athletics Canteen, Easter Raffle, Hot Cross Bun Drive and Stomp/School Picnic.

They have some great activities lined up for Term 2 so please continue to support them in their efforts once again. Without the donations of time and money from our parent group these events wouldn’t proceed so thank you to everyone for assisting.

I would also like to thank the School Council for joining or continuing to join in activities across the school.

I hope you have a fantastic Easter break and get an opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and friends.

COLOUR RUN

Last Friday 22nd March our school held it's annual Colour Run. This day is very much looked forward too by all our students. It's a day where students and myself get to run around a course filled with fun activities and get coloured in paint. It's also about raising much needed funds for our great school to go towards outdoor play spaces.

We can't thank our school and wider community for donating approximately $4,500.

This is an outstanding achievement and will go a long way.

Students who raised $20 or more have received a small prize and we also had our top 10 students receive a larger prize at assembly on Monday. Those students were, Isla Storrie, Clare Power, Maisy Murphy, Oliver Nichols, Matilda Romans, Maeve Brown, Ed Pollard, Isabelle Knight, Eli Pollard and Frankie Brown.

Also well done to class 2B who were the top donating class and enjoyed a pizza party today for their efforts.

EPILEPSY AWARENESS DAY

On Tuesday as part of Epilepsy Awareness Day our school held a Purple Day run by our JSC captains. This is a global initiative dedicated to raising epilepsy awareness, dispelling myths, and increasing support for people living with epilepsy. At Warrnambool Primary School we have students who live with epilepsy so we feel it's extra important for us to bring awareness about this condition.

It was great to see so many students participating and donating a gold coin donation. Our school raised $256.50 which will be donated to Epilepsy Australia.

DODGEBALL - YEAR 6

Written by Year 6 students

Last week was the dodgeball grand final. There were 4 teams, attack pack, ballstars, rapid five and strikeforce. The teams that played in the grand final were ballstars and attack pack.

The ballstars started with a great lead into the game. They won the first two games and then attackpack swept them off the floor with a great 315 come back.

They all jumped in excitement as they gathered to announce the winning team.

We would like to thank Mr Lewis for his time and effort to put the whole competition together.

Also good job to all the teams and players for showing their amazing effort and great job attackpack.

RIDE2SCHOOL DAY

National Ride2School Day is Australia's biggest celebration of active travel. It was so pleasing to see so many students either riding or walking to school last Friday. We had 48% of our students participate. These students names were placed in a draw to win one of two $100 vouchers which were donated by Warrnambool City Council.

Congratulations to Ella Bigg and Kylie Ma who were the lucky winners.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Our very successful Breakfast Club program has wrapped up for the term.

A big thank you to Mrs Ferguson and Jess Arnott for running the program each Monday and Friday morning.

Breakfast Club will continue each Monday and Friday in Term 2 commencing Monday 15th April at 8.15am.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Thank you to our hard working teachers who prepared for and conducted the Parent Teacher Interviews this week.

I would also like to thank all the Parents/Carers for attending.

We know that communication between teacher and parent is vital to the development of children.

If you were unable to attend for any reason we it's important to be in touch with your child’s teacher to get the best understanding of their life at school and the level of their outcomes.

We re-scheduled Parent Teacher Interviews in Term 2 for the class affected by staff absence this week.

SWIMMING - YEAR 1 AND 2

At the beginning of next term our swimming program continues with our Year 1 and 2 students.

Please ensure consent and payment and swimming ability forms are completed and returned. There is no compromise allowed regarding compliance around swimming and school excursions.

Student's can't attend swimming without the correct documentation.

FOUNDATION INFORMATION NIGHT - TUESDAY 23RD APRIL 2024 6pm

We would love to see as many prospective parents as possible at our Foundation Information Night on Tuesday 23rd April 2024 at 6pm in the Junior Gym.

If you already have children at the school or if you know someone who has a child commencing Foundation in 2025 please come along and encourage them to also.

We will share information about the first year of school, a day in the life of a Foundation child at Warrnambool Primary School and outline some of the great programs we offer.

WHOLE SCHOOL OPEN NIGHT - WEDNESDAY 15TH MAY 2024 AT 6PM

We are excited to announce our whole school open night on Wednesday 15th May 2024. This will give our family and the wider Warrnambool Community an opportunity to visit each of the classrooms and specialist areas and see all the great programs we have at Warrnambool Primary School. We know from past open nights that the students enjoy showing their families where they learn each day and some of the work they have been doing.

The Parents Association will be putting on a Sausage Sizzle at the BER from 5.30pm and we will also have a presentation and lucky door prize at 6.45pm in the BER.

We will once again have the Scholastic Book Fair open on the night for families to purchase some wonderful books.

Please let all your friends and family know and we look forward to seeing you all there.

CROSSING THE ROAD - JAMIESON STREET

Please take care and ensure that all Parents/Carers, and siblings use the school crossings in Jamieson Street during our very busy drop off and collection period. We simply cannot afford to have any accidents for any of our community members.

There are lights at Raglan Parade, a School Crossing in Jamieson Street and at the intersection of Canterbury Road which are all manned by our wonderful crossing supervisors. These crossings all provide a safe way of travel when crossing the roads. Thank you for your co-operation.

RETURN DATES TERM 2 - 2024

School returns for Term 2 on Monday 15th April 2024.

Have a wonderful break, stay safe, be kind and see you all for an exciting Term 2!
