How exciting it was to return to school and enjoy the newly refurbished Performing Arts area. A very big thank you for supporting this area and creating a space that is special to work in. New paint, soundproofed carpet, curtains, and a special stage area in the Blackbox Theatre make for an amazing learning space.
The Performing Arts area is alive and happening with the sounds of music, drama, dance & production rehearsals.

Music lessons for all Year 7’s students commenced during Week 4 of this term. Students will be aware that their lessons will appear on Compass and that they should also be bringing back their hire forms if necessary. We are delighted that so many Year 7’s have put up their hands to learn an instrument this year, it’s a great indicator that exciting times are ahead in Performing Arts. If there are any students who still wish to learn an instrument, please head over the music department at any stage and talk to one of the friendly music staff.
On Saturday Feb 10th, the Patterson River Stage Band performed at the Big Bands Sunset Festival in Mordialloc. This festival is hosted by the Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra (MOJO) each year, it features performances from local and national swing groups and big bands. The festival also hosts performance experiences for school bands from across Melbourne. We were very privileged to open the proceedings for the day and we thank all our parents and ex-students for coming out to cheer us on!
On Wednesday 6th March, the VCE Dance class travelled to the city to watch some of the top scoring dancers from 2023 in the ‘VCAA—Top Class Dance’ performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre before heading to Her Majesty’s Theatre to watch ‘Grease the Musical’. Students enjoyed both performances and came back with lots of inspiration and ideas for their own solo dance works.
The VCE Dance students will be performing their skills-based solos at our Semester 1 Dance Showcase on Wednesday 15th May. Tickets will be on sale in Term 2.
On Saturday March 23rd, the VCE Class Band and the College Stage Band performed at Seaford North Primary School Market and Fete. The bands were on stage for an hour, performing a wide variety of songs which included rock hits from artists like Pink, Avril Lavigne and Metallica, and groovy songs from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. The performance featured outstanding vocal performances from Jade B, Jess H and Cohen F. The feedback from the audience was fantastic and as always, we were so proud how our students performed. Well done to all music staff and students involved.
