'Because of You' & 'Auggie & Me'

The English Department have been busy doing what we do best - Reading, writing and sharing stories. Below are snippets from some of our Year 8 & 10 students. Included are thoughts about the novel ‘Because of You’ and the ‘Auggie and Me’ stories. As our students demonstrate, these are empathy building texts:

Year 8 Auggie & Me Responses to the Julian Story:

The Julian story made me think about how much people can change in a good way - just from listening to a story.

Fergus

The Julian story made me think…..be kind to everyone.

Lucy

The Julian story made me realise that everyone can change no matter what.

Hiruni

The Julian chapter was interesting and I liked when he showed remorse to Auggie.

Lacey

The Julian chapter showed that no matter what mistakes are made, everyone can change for the better.

Ruby

I liked the holocaust story because it was interesting and made me want to read more.

 Alex

Year 10 Because of You Responses:

The novel ‘Because of You’ made me think about how homeless people were treated out in public spaces especially when Pip Harry put events like the Chemist Warehouse incident. It also made me think about how I treat homeless people and how I can be better.

 Matthew

The novel ‘Because of You’ made me think how stereotypical people can be towards homeless people. The authorial intent of ‘Because of You’ was about more than just homelessness.

Alexis

The novel ‘Because of You’ made me think about how easy or hard it would be to make certain people change and what would cause this change?

Devon

The novel 'Because of You' made me think that I shouldn’t just completely ignore homeless people.

Michelle

The novel 'Because of You' made me wonder…. when I see homeless people on the streets, how they actually ended up there?
