Whilst Book Week is still a few months away, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) have announced the 2024 Children's Book Week theme, which is: 

This year’s theme celebrates reading and its amazing power to transport minds. CBCA are encouraging kids to be curious about the wonders in our world.

The awards were established by CBCA in 1946 and aim to: 

- promote quality literature for young Australians

- support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books and;

- celebrate contributions to Australia children’s literature.

In the months leading up to Book Week, CBCA releases an extensive list of notable books, which can be found here: https://cbca.org.au/. A shortlist is then created before the announcement of the CBCA winners in August. Books that have received a CBCA award or honourable mention make great gifts.
