Make a Joyful Noise
Music at MECS
Last Wednesday, 13 March, Senior Primary students were treated to an African Drumming workshop delivered by Kofi Kunkpe. Kofi, whose home country is Ghana, shared his culture and music with the students in an engaging and interactive way. Who knew that 45 students could all start, stop and play the djembe in time together? Each student followed Kofi’s lead on their own djembe and the rousing, 'African Drumming, hey!' refrain caught the attention of many Secondary students passing by the Theatrette.
Kofi played the Kora and Mbira, other instruments native to West Africa, whilst the students and teachers sat enthralled by the beautiful and peaceful sounds. The students reported thoroughly enjoying the workshop, especially the dance party at the end! (Go, Mr Reading!!)
Thank you to all staff who supported the event by attending and helping with logistics on the day.
