How we express ourselves

Year 3 Term 2A, 2024

Transdisciplinary Theme

'How we express ourselves'

Central Idea

People express themselves differently according to environment and audience

As an International Baccalaureate World School, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

Our second unit for the year provides students with the opportunity to explore different ways to improve communication techniques. The students will build on their knowledge of persuasive language and writing through analysing television commercials and conducting mini debates about given topics. They will also learn to communicate through pictures, coded messages and a variety of graphic organisers.

At the end of this unit of inquiry, students will work in small action groups to create two different communication pieces to express their ideas about a topic they are passionate about. They will be required to target more than one audience for example the teachers and the students of BNPS.  Some examples of action pieces are posters, PowerPoint presentations, letters, diagrams, movies and dioramas.

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process.
