Fun Night Result

We are very pleased to share with our school community that Family Fun Night on Thursday 7th March was a resounding success.  Long standing staff members made comment that we had the largest crowd in memory, and everyone seemed to enjoy their evening.  The final fundraising result was an amazing $20,155.00.   Special thanks go to Laura Zurzolo from our office who oversaw the planning for the event and to all our parent helpers and staff that assisted on the night.  As we always do at Plenty Parklands, we have reviewed the positives and opportunities for improvement from this year to make changes for future Fun Nights.  Laura and I have surveyed parents, staff and a range of students from Prep and Year 6 to gain insights into how we can make the next night even more fun.

Staffing News

Some exciting news we have to share involves the birth of little Lucy Ioannides.

Congratulations to Krystal (Year 3 Teacher) and her husband Daniel on the birth of their second child.

In not so happy news, our Assistant Principal Julie Nixon has allowed me to share that she will continue her leave during Term 2 as she focusses on her health at this time.  Julie and I are in contact each week as she maintains a keen interest in the developments around our school.

NAPLAN

Over the past two weeks our Year 3 and 5 students have undertaken Statewide NAPLAN Testing in a range of curriculum areas. This testing is just one of many ways we assess student learning and ensure that we are teaching at the student’s point of need.  If you have a child in these year levels, please show an interest in their experiences with NAPLAN and ensure they put their performance into perspective.

Gate Opening Times

In an attempt to increase security and ensure student safety, I have asked that the gates around the school are not opened until 3:15pm.  Please be patient whilst our maintenance team get around to all external gates to let parents in for pickup in the afternoon.  In the morning, gates will be continued to be opened at 8:30am for student arrival.  These will be locked again at 9:05am so students arriving after that time will need to enter via the office.  These decisions are made with the best interests of your children in mind.

School Council Changes

This coming Tuesday night’s School Council Meeting marks the handover from last year’s team to a new group of representatives formed after our recent Election.  We thank all retiring School Council members and welcome Vanessa Armenio, Robert Malivindi, Amanda McAuliffe, Kristina Petrovski and Dean Rowley.  Appreciation goes to President Fiona Taylor, who will remain on School Council but will handover the leadership in 2024 to a soon to be elected new President.

End of Term Organisation

As we come to the end of Term 1 there are a number of events this week that require your consideration.  3-Way Conferences begin after school Wednesday and continue into the evening and then throughout Thursday until 1:30pm.  Please note that Thursday 28th March is a student fee day, therefore students will finish up for the term on Wednesday 27th March at 3:30pm. Our final assembly will be held in the gym at 2:30pm.

Enjoy your upcoming Easter break.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone for the start of Term 2 on Monday 15th April.
