We have almost made it to the end of a busy term! We had the pleasure of being students to our SUP leader teachers last week and could not be prouder of their confidence presenting to the entire staff. Students have been very busy preparing for their Student Led Conferences that will take place on next Tuesday from 1-7pm. We look forward to meeting with you all and discussing any questions you may have in regards to their semester reports.
We also look forward to our JSC who will be host at this Friday’s assembly.
What's Coming up in the Classroom for Week 11:
Monday- Planning Day
Tuesday- 12:30pm finish for Student Led Conferences
Wednesday- Local Walk Excursion
Thursday- Final Day 3:30pm finish
Friday- Curriculum Day for Staff
Local Walk:
Students will need to bring a backpack with their iPad, snack, lunch and water bottle. We will be leaving school at approximately 9:30am and returning between 1:30pm and 2pm.
What's Coming up in the Classroom for Term 3, Week 1:
Maths: We will kick of our week with a focus on Time.
Reading: We will be studying a mentor text, titled ‘Six Dots’ to launch our inquiry into innovation.
Writing: Students will use the mentor text to explore conventions of language as well as work on personal writing choices.
Important things to note:
Next term we will start with a unit on time. Telling the time on an analogue clock is a Grade 4 standard skill. If your child can not read an analogue clock, I suggest some revisions on this at home. This will not largely be taught in our unit, but it will be a skill that they need to have. Key to this is having an analogue clock somewhere in the house for your child to access. Our major unit next term is fractions, decimals and percentages. In order to be able to follow this unit, it is vital that all students know their times tables up to 10x10 and corresponding division facts. We have done work on this at school but, for many of our students, revision of this at home is key. Writing up some short tests, calling out times tables and division questions, rolling dice or flipping playing cards to make problems are all great ways of rehearsing. Although times tables posters are a nice supplement to this, students will not learn their times tables by having a poster on display unless it is part of a more rigorous rehearsal routine.
Have a great week!
Warm regards,
The Grade 5/6 Team - Christina Crosland (5/6C), Emma Chang (5/6E), Molly Hedditch (5/6H), Bianca Italiano & Bianca Russo (5/6I), Matt Eason-Jones (5/6M) & Brittlee Salvo (5/6S)
