Year 3/4 Team News
with Bec, Mary, Katja, Grace, Alison, Hayley & Steven
The 3/4 students have been busy over the past couple of weeks. They have participated in 2 hockey clinics run by the Altona hockey club and this week they have had the privilege of a visit from our local world-renowned author, Andy Griffiths. The students were mesmerised and entertained by Andy’s talk, and we are so grateful that he took time from his busy schedule to visit us. Hopefully they will be inspired to produce some exciting writing in class soon. Thank you for the gold coin donations which will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
We wish you all a lovely break and look forward to many worthwhile learning experiences in Term 3. We are getting close to our camp and in Week 4 we will be celebrating Book Week so the students can start planning their costume.
Reminders
Fortnightly Curriculum Focus:
Literacy: In Reading, we will continue to use Andy Griffith’s books and other texts to help us to comprehend what we are reading by using our knowledge of language and the world.
In Writing, we will be writing a letter of thanks to Andy Griffiths and working through the 6+ traits of writing in our personal writing.
Numeracy: Statistics/Data: We are learning to construct suitable data displays, with and without the use of digital technologies, from given or collected data. We are learning to graph our findings on Google Spreadsheets or Excel. We are learning to analyse a dot plot.
Inquiry: We will be concluding our Inquiry question for this term ‘What was life like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia before and after European settlement?’
Next term our Inquiry question will be “What would life be like without laws and rules?”. This is part of the Humanities learning area of the Victorian Curriculum and the Discipline, Civics & Citizenship.
Year 3/4 Camp: Dates for your calendar: Wed 20th – Fri 22nd August. Keep an eye out for more information coming through in the coming weeks.
