It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final week of Term 2 and already halfway through the school year! As we missed our last newsletter, this edition is packed with updates, celebrations, and highlights from the past few weeks.
The Year 1 students have made fantastic progress both socially and academically, and it’s been a joy to see their confidence grow. We’re so proud of all they’ve achieved this term.
Student Learning Conferences
Just a friendly reminder that Student Learning Conferences are taking place next Tuesday the 1st of July between 1-7pm. Students will be dismissed from school at 12.30pm. Bookings are now open on Compass for you to select a ten minute time slot to meet with your child’s classroom teacher. We look forward to seeing you then.
Year 1 Planning Day
Next Wednesday the 2nd of July is our scheduled Planning Day. On this day the Year One students will enjoy specialist classes for the day, which they are looking forward to. They will not have specialists on any other day next week.
Year 1 Bowerbird Experts Take Flight
Our Year 1 students have become budding scientists and authors through their incredible non-fiction work on the fascinating Bowerbird. With facts about its habitat, diet, appearance and behaviour, each student created their own illustrated book showcasing both research and creativity. They even imagined and described their own newly discovered creatures! When shared with their Year 5/6 buddies and the feedback was glowing. These books will head home at the end of term to be enjoyed by the families. We couldn’t be prouder of our talented young learners.
Curriculum Focus: Week 11
Reading: We have moved into stage 7.3 of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Next week, we will review these 7.3 sounds.
Writing: Students will continue enjoying writing freely on a topic each day. This is providing students the chance to be creative and apply all of their writing skills.
Numeracy: We will be focusing on solving addition and subtraction equations using number lines.
Inquiry: Our topic this term is “How and why do we care for animals? How do animals care for us?”.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: There is a focus on problem solving over the next few weeks. Our Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids are Problem Solvers". We will be trying different approaches to solve problems and asking for help when we need it. During our Respectful Relationships sessions our topic this term is Personal Strengths. We will be learning to identify and describe personal strengths, explain how these strengths contribute to school and family life, as well as identifying ways to care for others, including ways of making and keeping friends.
Wishing you a restful, well-earned break! We can’t wait to see what next semester brings!
Warm regards,
The Grade One Team – Edan Bacegga (1B), Claire Davies (1D) &
Kayleen Dumic & Anna Swan (1K)
