After a very busy and productive term, all classes have completed their Term 2 tasks and have now moved onto to their Crazy Camel art pieces. (More information to come about the ‘Crazy Camel’ fundraiser in Term 3) We have been using a mix of materials eg. Oil pastels, food dye, textas, watercolour and paint to create individual, one of kind pieces that are chosen by the students. We have plenty of time to finish these during Term 3. On our upcoming planning days, students will be learning about Indigenous art in preparation for NAIDOC Week.
Grade Prep’s have completed their gorgeous Frida Dolls and guided drawing of Frida Kahlo portraits. Some of these are up in the office foyer for viewing
Grade 1’s - Our amazing and colourful Frida Dolls are now complete and some of these are on display in the office foyer.
Grade 2’s - The Grade 2’s have almost completed their guided drawings of ‘still life’ fruit bowls. These will be on display in the office foyer later this week.
Grade 3/4’s – These grades have completed their watercolour self-portraits this week. Some of these are on display in the office foyer. You can view your child’s Visual Arts Portfolio on the Google Classroom platform on their Ipad under the Visual Arts Folder.
Grade 5/6’s – All the mono chromatic self-portraits are now finished and are on display in the office foyer. The 5/6’s have also been working on ‘how to draw the body’, form and movement.

Art smocks
Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts
Year 1: Students have been learning to play songs together on both the untuned instruments and keyboard. They have learnt a song called “Louise” about an African elephant and a rhyming song called “I can’t spell hippopotamus.” They have also played “Bear Dance” and “I just called to say I love you” on the instruments and keyboard.
Year 2: Students are continuing to learn songs based around a C major scale and the solfege method. They have played the “Down down yellow and brown” and the “Alphabet song” on the keyboard and marimbas.
Grade 3/4 – Students have continued learning how to play more major and minor chords on the keyboard and marimbas. They have played the reggae song by Bob Marley called “Three little birds” and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. They can now play G major, E minor, D major and A major chords on the instruments.
Grade 5/6 – Students have been listening to songs with messages and have started a song writing activity where they select and write about a topic that they know about or that interests them that has a message. There have been some great topics selected such as friendship, being yourself, holidays, staying humble, resilience. Students have used a simple chord pattern to sing their lyrics to. Some of these will be shared within the class.
