From the Principal

Principal: Mathew Montebello

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of another term already! The past weeks have flown by, and it’s been such a busy, fun, and rewarding time across the school. From exciting learning in the classroom to fantastic community events and activities, there’s been a real buzz around Williamstown Primary.

A big thank you to our students for their energy and enthusiasm, to our amazing staff for their hard work, and to our families for the ongoing support—it truly makes a difference.

We hope everyone takes the chance to relax and recharge over the break. Enjoy the holidays, and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for Term 3!

Thank You to Andy Griffiths

A big thank you to much-loved children’s author Andy Griffiths for spending time with our Grade 3/4 students this week. Andy’s visit was a wonderful opportunity for students to hear firsthand about the writing process, spark their creativity, and ask questions about his stories and characters.

What made the visit even more special is Andy’s family connection to Williamstown Primary School, adding a personal touch to an already memorable experience.

We’re very grateful to Andy for his time and generosity—and for inspiring the next generation of writers in our school community.

Fundraiser for West Welcome Wagon

This term, Williamstown Primary is proud to be supporting the West Welcome Wagon, an organisation that provides essential items to refugees and asylum seekers in Melbourne’s west.

As part of our fundraiser, we are currently collecting donations of clean, good-quality children's clothing to help families in need. Clothing can be dropped off at the collection point near the school office.

We are also holding a Crazy Hair Day to raise funds for the purchase of new undergarments—an item that can’t be donated but is always in high demand. Students are encouraged to come to school with their wildest, wackiest hairstyles and bring a gold coin donation on the day.

Thank you for your generous support as we work together to make a positive difference in our broader community.

Student Reports & Conferences

Semester 1 student reports will be available to families this Friday at 4:00pm via COMPASS. These reports provide an overview of your child’s learning progress and achievements so far this year.

Please note: This semester, the Mathematics progression points have been merged into a single overall point, rather than being broken down by strand. This reflects our whole-school approach to Maths—focusing on students’ overall understanding, application, and growth across all areas.

A reminder that Student Conferences will be held on Tuesday 1st July. Bookings are now open via COMPASS.

  • Years P–2 conferences are for parents and teachers only, providing an opportunity to discuss student progress in detail.
  • Years 3–6 conferences will be student-led, with students actively sharing their learning and reflecting on their goals alongside parents and teachers.

We encourage all families to read through reports together and book in for a conference. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.

Uniform Update

We’re excited to let families know that all new uniform items—including the bomber jacket, bootcut pants, and school beanie—have now been added to the school’s uniform website. These new additions are designed to keep students warm and comfortable while maintaining our school’s consistent look and pride.

A friendly reminder to all families about the importance of students wearing the appropriate school uniform items each day. Wearing the uniform helps foster a strong sense of belonging and school identity, and we appreciate your ongoing support in upholding our dress code.

You can view and purchase uniform items online at: https://www.dcsuniforms.com.au/collections/williamstown-primary

Stand Up Project – Parent Workshop Tonight

We are looking forward to welcoming families to tonight’s Stand Up Project Parent Workshop. It’s great to see strong interest in the session, with over 50 parents registered to attend.

The workshop will be led by our Student Upstander Leaders, who will share the work they’ve been doing as part of the program. The Stand Up Project aims to build respectful relationships and support students in developing the confidence to stand up for themselves and others.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up—we appreciate your support and look forward to a valuable session this evening.

Reminder:

End of Term 2 & Curriculum Day

The last day of Term 2 for students  is Thursday, 3rd July. Students will finish school at 3:30pm on this day. Friday, 4th July is a scheduled Curriculum Day for staff professional development. On this day, our staff will be undertaking First Aid refresher training to ensure they are prepared to support our school community.

Please remember that students do not attend school on Friday, 4th July.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute to our school community in a meaningful way.

Warm regards,

Mat
