Dance and Drama – A Big Finish to the Term!
It has been a huge few weeks for our Dance and Drama students, both in and out of the classroom – and it's not over yet! Week 9 is packed with exciting events and performance opportunities that showcase the incredible talent and hard work of our students.
Monday 23 June – Year 9 Dance Performance Assessment
Our Year 9 Dance students will present their collaborative dance work as part of their assessment. This special performance will be shared with our Junior School students during their technical rehearsals – a wonderful opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
Tuesday 24 June – Junior Performing Arts Evening
An evening celebrating the creativity of our youngest performers, featuring a showcase of K to 6 Curriculum Dance, Drama, and Music, alongside performances from the Junior School Performing Arts Ensembles. A heart-warming night not to be missed!
Thursday 26 June – HSC Drama Evening
Our Year 12 Drama students will present their HSC performance and project work-in-progress – an important step in preparing for both Trial and Final HSC examinations. The evening will also feature select works from our Year 9, 10, and 11 Drama elective students, providing a fantastic snapshot of emerging talent across the School.
Friday 27 June – Co-curricular Dance Competition
Our Co-curricular Dance Companies will take the stage in their first competition of the year. We wish all performers the very best as they represent our School with passion and dedication.
And in the Classroom…
It’s been a dynamic and productive time in the classroom for our Dance and Drama students as they work towards major assessments, performances, and competitions.
Year 12 Drama - The Year 12 Drama class has had a particularly busy few weeks, finalising their projects for Assessment Task 3, to be presented on Thursday 19 June. Thank you to their tech crew, Remy and Anna. These projects are part of their Stage 6 Drama course, they have been preparing them to perform at the HSC Drama Evening and the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod, providing valuable performance opportunities and feedback ahead of their Trial and HSC Examinations in Term 3.
Year 9 Drama - Some of our Year 9 Drama students are also stepping into the spotlight, with selected students performing at the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod. This is an exciting opportunity to gain stage experience and receive external feedback in a competitive yet supportive environment.
Year 11 Drama Student – Liam
Not content with just one of the leading roles in the cast of Mamma Mia!, Liam continues to impress with his versatility and talent. On Saturday, 14th June, he competed in the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod, delivering a powerful performance of Mark Antony’s monologue from Julius Caesar. His compelling interpretation earned him 1st Place in the Shakespearean category — a well-deserved recognition of his hard work and dedication.
Congratulations, Liam!
Year 9 Dance – Safe Dance Practice Presentations
In Week 7, as part of their Safe Dance Practice unit, the Year 9 Dance class presented research tasks exploring anatomy in relation to dance movement and injury prevention. The aim of this task was to deepen students' knowledge and understanding of training principles, physiology, and dance theory, all of which directly connect to their practical experiences in class.
It was a fabulous morning of creative and informative presentations. Students delivered their findings through engaging role plays, with many taking on the roles of medical professionals, teaching injury-prevention exercises, and even using model diagrams made from lollies to illustrate key concepts.
By presenting in a way that educated their peers, students not only demonstrated a strong grasp of the content but also gained valuable experience in communication and presentation—skills that will support them in the Stage 6 Dance course and beyond.
The entire class is to be commended on their effort, creativity, and professionalism. Well done.
Year 7 Drama – Assessment Group Tasks
In Week 7, all Year 7 completed their Semester One group tasks in their curriculum Drama classes. All the Drama teachers were incredibly impressed with the students' efforts. Each group worked collaboratively to bring their creative ideas together to produce well-structured and engaging mime performances.
Performing in front of peers is no easy feat, and we are so proud of every student—not only for their commitment to their performances but also for their thoughtful and supportive peer reflections. Their efforts, both on stage and as audience members, truly stood out.
We look forward to continuing our work with these students in Semester Two, helping them further develop skills that will benefit them in all areas of life.
It’s an exciting time for the Dance and Drama Department – thank you to all the students and staff for their commitment and energy.
