STAGE 6

SCIENCE

Chemical Reactions

Year 11 Chemistry have been studying various chemical reactions during Term 2. They completed an investigation to determine how many moles of chalk were required to write ‘Year 11 Chemistry’ on the concrete. They have also enjoyed using volumetric glassware to measure out solutions and perform dilutions. Another highlight experiment enjoyed by the students was to investigate precipitation reactions.

Year 12 Hospitality: Full Steam Ahead

Year 12 Hospitality students are fast approaching the finish line, with trial exams on the horizon and a strong focus on refining their practical skills and service experience.

This term, students had the rewarding opportunity to participate in The Biggest

Morning Tea, hosting a successful community event at the Kurri Kurri Community Centre. Surrounded by supportive community members, students showcased their talents while raising funds for a great cause. The event was a true celebration of teamwork, hospitality, and generosity. While the lemon slice received glowing reviews, the standout favourite was undoubtedly the chocolate cake pops!

In addition to in-school service, our VET Hospitality students have been diligently completing their mandatory work placement hours in local cafés and pubs. A special congratulations goes to Jorja Boughton, who completed her final placement at the Criterion Hotel in Weston. Thanks to her dedication and commitment, Jorja has secured casual employment at the venue — a fantastic achievement and a testament to her hard work.

VISUAL ARTS & VISUAL DESIGN

Gestural ink drawings

Year 11 students have been investigating expressive portraiture through a range of styles and historical contexts. They began the term experimenting with gestural ink drawings inspired by Henri Matisse, using fluid line and expressive mark-making. This was followed by a study of the Baroque period, which led to high-contrast, dramatic portraits. Students have now begun creating figurative sculptures influenced by the distinctive forms and textures of Alberto Giacometti

Year 12 Visual Arts students are independently developing their Body of Work for the HSC, refining ideas and techniques as they produce artworks that reflect their personal style and creative journey.

Year 12 Visual Design students have been working on individual major design projects across a wide range of creative fields. Their imaginative work includes fashion designs, product and gaming merchandise, character illustrations, a designer chair, and even a larger-than-life Minecraft Creeper costume!

It’s been a vibrant and inspiring term, with students across all stages demonstrating creativity, critical thinking, and a growing command of technical skills.
