Dear Parents and Carers,
As Term 2 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate the many achievements and moments of connection that have made this a truly memorable term amidst floods and some truly wild weather.
Our students continue to show pride in their appearance and a strong sense of belonging by wearing the winter school uniform with consistency. It’s been fantastic to see so many students dressed in the correct school jumpers, jackets, and track pants—particularly during the colder weather. Thank you to all families for your continued support in upholding these high standards.
On the sporting front, this has been a standout term. Our boys and girls football, soccer, and netball teams have displayed incredible teamwork, sportsmanship, and success across multiple competitions. We also commend our students who represented the school in lawn bowls and cross country, competing with pride and enthusiasm. This term also marked an exciting first for our school—our debut in equestrian events, with one student representing KKHS with great professionalism and skill and winning some ribbons as well! A big thank you also to all our our sporting coaches and Ms Gavenlock for her leadership in this area.
We are proud to celebrate the students who successfully completed the Top Blokes and Young Mob programs this term. These programs are designed to foster positive identity, leadership skills, and resilience—and we’ve seen real growth in the young people who participated. Congratulations to all students who participated on their graduation and positive engagement.
Our sense of community has also been on full display through multiple whole school events. The Student Representative Council (SRC) did an outstanding job coordinating fundraising for the Mark Hughes Foundation, supporting brain cancer research. Our school also united in marking Reconciliation Week, Disability Inclusion Week, and NAIDOC Week—with events and activities that encouraged learning, reflection, and connection across our school community. Another highlight was our successful hosting of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, both at school and into the local community, our students have been exceptional in all these events!
A significant wellbeing initiative this term has continued to grow at KKHS with the expansion of the My Strengths Positive Psychology Program. This program has been in place for a few years now and this year was delivered to students in Years 7, 10, and 12. This program helps students identify and use their personal strengths, develop positive mindsets, and celebrate their individual strengths. Students in Year 7 & 10 were provided with strength based cards to serve as a reminder of all the things that make them great. This initiative will form a key part of our strategy to support wellbeing, academic growth, and High Potential and Gifted Education, ensuring every student can thrive in their own way.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing for some important academic milestones. Our Year 8 students will soon take part in elective selection days, where they begin shaping their own learning journey based on interests and strengths. At the same time, our Year 10 students are being supported with comprehensive subject selection guidance, including one-on-one mentoring, information sessions, and access to future pathways advice. We are also excited to open our newly refurbished kitchens and for students to access these incredible new spaces
Finally, we are excited for the re-launch of our house system and many challenge days during Education Week! Keep an eye on our social media for updates on this exciting initiative and see which house takes out the Education Week Challenges
Thank you once again for your partnership and support. It’s been a fantastic term, and we’re looking forward to what Term 3 will bring.
