As the cooler weather settles in, our kitchen garden has embraced the best of the season with an abundance of root vegetables, leafy greens and zesty citrus. The garden beds have delivered and our students have been making the most of the winter harvest in the kitchen.

This week, students prepared a delicious seasonal menu featuring Silverbeet, Pea and Feta Sausage Rolls, paired with a Mandarin, Beetroot and Asparagus Salad. The vibrant green vegetables made a stunning filling, carefully wrapped in pastry to create golden, crunchy and flavour-packed rolls. The salad added a fresh, tangy burst that balanced the dish beautifully.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve continued to explore and celebrate winter produce, with students also cooking up Cheat’s Samosas, Vegetable Curry and even sweet treats like Mandarin Muffins, all showcasing the versatility and richness of our garden’s bounty.

These kitchen sessions offer students not only practical cooking skills, but also a deeper appreciation of seasonality, sustainability and working as a team.

A huge thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers who dedicate their time each week to support students in the kitchen and garden. Your guidance, patience and passion help bring the program to life and are deeply appreciated by us all.

We’re proud of the creativity and care our students have shown this term and we look forward to more warming meals ahead!

Until next time – happy cooking!
