Attendance Matters

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
This term, we’ve seen an increase in students arriving late to school and not being fully prepared for class. Punctuality and consistency are key to student success across the school day. Arriving on time and ready to learn sets the tone for productive, engaged learning.
If you would like strategies or support to help improve your child’s punctuality, please contact their Home Group Teacher. If further support is needed, their Student Achievement Leader (SAL) can also assist.
Addressing punctuality early is a vital step in preventing broader attendance concerns. Frequent lateness or absences can significantly impact a student’s learning progress and future opportunities.
Please note: attendance and punctuality are important considerations for students applying for VET programs and advanced VCE subjects in Year 9 as they transition into their Year 10 career pathways.
Below, you’ll find a graph showing Term 2 data on late arrivals to school in the morning.
If your child has a valid reason for arriving late, please email elisabeth.murdoch.co@education.vic.gov.au Include your child’s name, Home Group, and the reason for their lateness. A member of our team will follow up with a phone call to ensure we can best support your student.
We value our partnership with families in supporting student success. By working together, we can help students build strong routines that contribute to their learning, wellbeing, and future success.
Kind regards,
EMC Attendance Team
