Principal

Dear Solway Families,

Even though it ended with me being dunked by buckets of icy cold water, it was absolutely wonderful to spend last Thursday afternoon with our school community at our Big Freeze 11 assembly. At Solway Primary School, our vision is to empower curious and caring learners to thrive in an inclusive community — and this event was a powerful example of that vision in action. Our students, led by the SRC, demonstrated deep care and compassion by raising both funds and awareness for those living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

What made me especially proud was how our students engaged with the why behind the fundraiser. Many had not been personally affected by MND, but they asked questions, showed curiosity, and made the effort to understand how this disease impacts individuals and families. That’s what we are striving for every day at Solway — students who not only care, but who seek to understand.

A heartfelt thank you to the SRC, our staff, and our entire community for coming together to support such an important cause. It was a memorable afternoon for all the right reasons — even the ice buckets!

It was wonderful to welcome so many pre-school aged children and their families to our recent Art Workshop. Events like these are a valuable opportunity for young children to become familiar with the school environment in a warm, welcoming and engaging way.

By supporting early transitions to school, we are helping children build confidence, develop a sense of belonging, and feel ready to thrive — wherever they begin their primary school journey.

We are committed to supporting all families in our local area, and we will be offering more opportunities for Kinder to School transition experiences in Term 3, both at Solway and out in the community. Keep an eye on our newsletter, Facebook and Compass for more information!

If you or someone you know has a child starting school next year and is interested in joining us at Solway Primary School, a friendly reminder that initial enrolment applications are due by Thursday 25th July, with enrolment offers sent from Monday 29th July.

To submit an application, please visit the Department of Education’s enrolment portal: https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/

We are looking forward to welcoming our next group of curious and caring learners to the Solway community!

A reminder to all families that, in line with the Department of Education Victoria’s Attendance Policy, parents and carers must notify me in writing at least two weeks in advance if planning to take a family holiday during the school term. Prolonged absences can impact student learning and wellbeing, so early communication helps us support your child’s continued engagement with their learning during any time away.

Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
