School News

Dear Families,
As we welcome the start of winter and the final weeks of Term 2, it’s a great time to reflect on all that has been achieved so far. With just a few weeks to go, we look forward to celebrating the many highlights of the term and as we look to finish strongly together as a school community.
Year 6 go to Camp Jungai
School camps provide the perfect opportunity for students to experience positive interactions with each other outside of the classroom. Fun activities, team sports and teamwork challenges both help develop new relationships and deepen existing bonds of friendship.
Our Year 6 students had an unforgettable adventure at Camp Jungai in Rubicon last week. Surrounded by nature, they embraced every experience with enthusiasm and teamwork.
A special highlight was the cultural learning session with Aunty, where students explored Indigenous perspectives and discovered the uses of native plants, learning the motto ‘take what you need for now, not what you want for later’. From canoeing and high ropes to raft building, bushwalking, and creating nature-inspired art, students developed resilience and deepened their connection with the environment. They also enjoyed camping in tents, bonfire singing close encounters with kangaroos! It was a week full of laughter, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime.
We would like to thank Alex Pensini, Holly Evans, Julie Ferguson, Becky Kavanagh, Ricky Daly and Rebecca McCormack for taking time out of their busy lives to attend camp and support the students on their adventures.
Book Fair
Get ready, the Scholastic Book Fair is arriving tomorrow! From 13th June to 19th June, we will be hosting the annual Scholastic Book Fair! It’s a wonderful opportunity for students and families to explore a fantastic range of books, from exciting stories to fun non-fiction, all available for purchase. The book fair will be open before and after school. The Book Fair will be open this Friday from 3:25-3:40 then Monday through to Friday next week from 8.35-8:50 and 3:25-3:40.
Grandparent’s Day
We are so excited to be welcoming our beloved grandparents and special friends to Galilee on Monday 16th June for our annual Grandparents Day celebration!
The morning will involve a school mass, honouring the love, wisdom, and guidance that grandparents bring to our families and school community, as well as classroom visits, a range of fun activities in the stadium and a chance to connect with other families. Don’t forget to stop by our Book Fair—a perfect opportunity to explore new reads and maybe even pick out a book together. This day is always a highlight on our school calendar, and we look forward to coming together to celebrate the joy and connection that grandparents bring to our lives. See you there!
Teacher Professional Learning
On Tuesday, Galilee staff participated in professional learning facilitated by Team Teach. This was a valuable and engaging opportunity for staff to deepen their understanding of how to support all students’ emotional and behavioural needs. This learning had a strong focus on proactive, positive strategies that enhance student wellbeing. Staff approached the day with enthusiasm and a spirit of collaboration, sharing insights and working together to explore a range of practical, whole-child strategies. These strategies build on the strong relationships already established with students, further promoting emotional regulation and strengthening calm, supportive responses during moments of distress.
School Disco
Our School Disco on Friday 30th May was a fantastic night filled with music, dancing, and lots of fun! A huge thank you to Mr Martello, our amazing DJ, for keeping the energy high and the dance floor full. We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it such a memorable event!
New Victorian English Curriculum and Updates to our Semester Two Report
This year all Victorian Schools have implemented the new revised Victorian English Curriculum. Staff at Galilee have engaged in a range of professional development sessions on the revised English curriculum and have been teaching and assessing using the new curriculum. All students at Galilee will be assessed using the new Revised Victorian English Curriculum for their end of semester reports.
In the Semester One reports, you will notice some changes to the way that we are reporting on Writing with an increased number of writing checklists. The change is so that families are supported to more accurately understand how their child is progressing in the area of Writing. In Semester One student reports, writing checklists will be broken down specific areas of writing, such as creating, organising, vocabulary, editing, grammar and punctuation, handwriting and spelling.
Year 4 First Holy Communion
On Sunday the 1st of June, the Year 4 students at Galilee proudly celebrated their First Holy Communion. Surrounded by their families, teachers, and parish community, the students took this important step in their faith journey with reverence and joy. Dressed in their Sunday best, they showed amazing maturity and understanding of the significance of the occasion. They led the mass with readings and supplied offerings, leading up to receiving the Eucharist for the first time. It was a meaningful and memorable occasion, marking a special milestone in their spiritual development.
