Visual Arts
This week in Visual Arts, all students continued their exciting exploration of printmaking. Foundation and Year 1/2 students experimented with a range of printing tools, including shape stamps, corks, forks, textured foam, and more. They explored the unique marks each tool could make and then used these to design a creative scene composed entirely of printed shapes and textures. Year 3/4 students delved into foam printing, where they created reverse images by drawing directly onto foam plates. After applying paint, they pressed their designs onto paper, producing bold and unique prints. Year 5/6 students continued developing their Lesley Gibbons-inspired artworks. Building on the colourful backgrounds created last week using gelli plates, students transferred images and layered shapes onto their prints. They then explored the concept of contrast by painting the negative space white allowing the vibrant positive space, made up of their shapes and imagery, to shine through and create a striking visual effect.

Year 3/4 students completed their Henri Matisse-inspired paper collage artworks. Using scissors, they carefully created and arranged organic paper shapes to design expressive and abstract compositions, celebrating colour and creativity.

Culture Studies
Last week in Culture Studies, students continued their exploration of Brazil, embracing its vibrant and festive spirit. They decorated and created colourful carnival masks using a variety of materials, expressing their creativity and celebrating Brazilian culture. Building on this, Foundation and year 1/2 students also made their own version of a pandeiroβa small hand drum traditionally played in Brazil by shaking, tapping, or striking with the fingers. To make their instruments unique, students added shells inside to create sound, then decorated their drums with pom poms, beads, glitter, and plenty of bright colours. It was a joyful, hands-on experience that combined music, culture, and creativity!

PEΒ
Over the past two weeks, all students from Prep to year 6 have been participating in Badminton. It has started by getting to know the equipment and how to use it properly and safely, and then moving onto the skills and rules of the game. For the P-2 students instead of using a shuttle cock, students have been using a balloon to hit. The balloon floats longer and more slowly in the air which gives the students more time to hit it correctly and move their feet. The students in years 3-6 have been using a shuttle cock, and hitting with a partner and over a net.
Students have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the skills and rules of the game, and it has been pleasing to see them all trying so hard.

Interschool Sports
Last week was the final round of interschool sports for term 2. We played Southmoor and we had a couple of wins a couple of losses. All of this has been in preparation and organising positions for the Lightning Premiership which is taking place today, Friday 27th June. Our very young girls softball team which has four year 6 girls and five year 4 girls have been amazing and have gone through the term undefeated. The mixed netball team has lost two close games while the remaining teams have had a few wins and a few losses.
We hope they have enjoyed their term of sports, and hope they do well in the Lightning Premiership.
The sportsmanship and teamwork has been excellent.
Well done to all involved on such a great term of sport.Β

Thank you to all families who signed up their children, spread the word and collected donations; the teachers and aides who helped the students track their books in their classrooms; and all the kids who spent the last month reading and reading. A special shout out belongs to the Parents and Friends Committee, and especially Jana Kingston, without whom none of this would have been possible.
Let's see if it can get even bigger and better next year!

Term Two. Week Ten.Β
Β
Le Page was very fortunate last week to have some visitors from Auslan Education Services. We were given a presentation by three team members and we were discussing the importance of emotions and feelings. The students were taught the importance of facial expressions and correct hand figuration when talking to a deaf person. Also the importance of looking straight at a deaf person when you are communicating with them.Β
All students really enjoyed the presentation. I was so proud of them and how well they were able to demonstrate their signing skills.Β

Bringing this concert to life took a lot of teamwork and organisation. At 12:10 PM, all the music, band, and choir captains β along with our dedicated music crew β met in the hall to begin packing up the equipment.
Β
A big thank you to Miss Annette and Mrs Casacelli, who loaded their cars with instruments and gear and drove it all to the venue. Meanwhile, 52 students walked to Kingston Green accompanied by Mr Danson, Mr Earl, Tom, and myself. Upon arrival, the captains and crew worked together efficiently to set up the performance space.
The concert itself was a joy to witness. The residents were thoroughly delighted and generously offered all performers a drink and a packet of biscuits as thanks. After the final applause, the music captains packed up the equipment and cars, and the rest of us walked back to school, where everything was returned and stored.
It was a fantastic afternoon full of music, teamwork, and community spirit. Well done, everyone!
