Fantastic 3/4

Term 2 Week 10
3/4 Newsletter
Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2!
We can't believe that we are already heading towards the end of our first Semester! We are all so proud of everything that the students have achieved. From performances, to Museum excursions, we have had so many incredible experiences. We can't wait to see what else the superstars achieve next Semester!
Literacy:
Over the past two weeks, students have planned and completed persuasive letters addressed to Mr. Danson or their classroom teachers, convince them to allow a class pet within the classroom. They have independently researched, planned and written up a persuasive letter. They confidently used the OREO structure to organise their ideas and have produced some truly compelling pieces of writing.

Phonics:
In phonics, students have continued to focus on the second sounds of c and g. We've also been exploring suffixes that make a word plural, especially base words that end in an ‘f’, changing to ‘ves’ when plural. Additionally, we have also been reviewing syllables within words, being able to identify how many syllables are in each word.
Plural ending in v | Leaf-leaves Knife-knives Self-selves half-halves |
gy | Energy Allergy Gym |
cy | Cyclone cyan |
Maths:
In Maths, students have been building on their understanding across various topics. Our Year 3 students have revisited addition and subtraction, with a focused look at using place value charts to support grouping and regrouping strategies. Meanwhile, our Year 4 students have continued to explore the concept of time, specifically focusing on elapsed time to the minute and learning strategies to calculate it accurately.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, students have continued exploring First Nations cultures through a range of focused learning experiences. This week, we looked closely at the art created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for communicating stories and maps. Students created their own symbols to communicate what they did over the weekend. Students have begun to research and plan a poster presentation that explores an indigenous Australian archaeological site. They are exploring the connection that the Indigenous Australians have with the land.
