Fabulous Foundation
Term 2 Week 10 - 27th June 2025
The past two weeks have certainly flown by! We've had a very productive and busy time in Foundation as we continue with both 1:1 and whole group assessments. Alongside this, we continue to soar through our busy curriculum. Our students have particularly enjoyed our hands-on Maths lessons, exploring concepts through fun and practical activities. In Literacy, they are continuing to grow in confidence with their recount writing, proudly sharing their experiences in their own words. We’ve also been incorporating regular dance brain breaks into our days — a fun way to refresh and refocus! A big focus in the classroom has been supporting students to build resilience and independence, encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning and choices
Literacy
In Literacy, our students have been busy writing recounts about what they had for breakfast! We've been learning all about adjectives and how they can make our writing more interesting and descriptive.
The children have been experimenting with words like sweet strawberries, yellow fluffy eggs, crunchy toast, and salty Vegemite to bring their writing to life. It’s been wonderful to see them using their creativity and growing confidence in writing full sentences.
We’re so proud of their progress and love seeing their personalities shine through in their work!
I have included a phonics table that shows what sounds and words are taught when.

Maths:
Thankyou to the families that came to our Prep Maths open morning. It was great to have you part of our class and observe snippet of maths lessons we teach daily. The Preps were very excited and proud to have you wath them in action!
In Maths, we’ve been using lots of ten frames, counters, and have recently introduced Base 10 blocks to support our number work. These hands-on tools make learning more engaging and allow all students to be actively involved in their learning.
The hands-on approach not only helps build a strong understanding of number concepts, but also allows us to extend students where needed and provide support where necessary. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence growing as they work with these materials in fun and meaningful ways!
Leadership Day
Leadership Day was a huge success, and it was so lovely to see so many of our Prep families there to celebrate with us! The Preps were full of excitement and truly shone as amazing young leaders on the day. We are so proud of how confidently they participated and represented our Foundation team.
We are also still busily working on our mosaic Rainbow Fish—a collaborative art project that reflects the values of kindness, sharing, and being a good friend. We can’t wait to share the finished piece with you soon
Inquiry/Science
This week in Science, our Foundation students had a fantastic time exploring materials to find out which ones are waterproof! We tested paper, cardboard, material, plastic, and foil by dropping water on each and observing what happened.
The students were very excited to watch the results and made some great predictions and discoveries. Ask your child at home which materials were waterproof and which ones weren’t — they’ll love sharing what they learned
