Kitchen Garden

Shannon Sargeant

It has been a wonderful semester in Kitchen Garden. Starting with very little growing in the garden, students have worked hard to increase the number of vegetable beds and fill those beds with produce.

As well as learning about the requirements of plants in the garden, students have learned about the relationship between food and the environment, specifically the role of bees, food waste, the impact of meat, monoculture and the use of herbicides and pesticides.

Students have enjoyed making products in the kitchen, not just from garden produce, but whatever has been in surplus in the kitchen overall – ensuring that we have reduced food waste in the Foods Department.
