Promoting mental fitness over the holidays
The school holidays are a great time to take a break and start putting in place healthy habits that can promote success and mental fitness in the new year. If you would like to improve your mental fitness why not take the Black Dog Institute’s 30 day fitness challenge. It’s a free App called Headgear.

SunSmart
With temperatures in Melbourne heating up, do you know about the free SunSmart app? Available on the app store and developed by the Cancer Council, the app provides guidance as to when sun protection is and is not required. This can give you the confidence to enjoy time outside safety, minimising the risk of skin damage which can lead to cancer. App features:
- Daily UV levels for the local area including sun protection times
- 5 day forecast including UV and weather forecast
- Access to forecast UV and sun protection times anywhere in the world.
The app can be downloaded here SunSmart Global UV app - SunSmart
It is also important that parents and carers are role modelling sun safety practices, including wearing a hat, sunscreen, protective sunglasses, staying in the shade and wearing protective clothing. It may be best to give your young person their own supply of sunscreen. If your young person is worried about acne or pimples and sunscreen, look for brands labelled ‘non comedogenic’ or ‘oil-free’.
