Sustainability

This month, the College recognised National Recycling Week with all teachers and students participating in a Sustainability lesson. The title of the lesson was, "Is Recycling the Answer?"  We looked at what a circular economy is and the five R's of waste management. The 5 R’s include Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle. In groups, each of the different R’s was considered and ideas of how to achieve each propagated and shared.  Blank trees were provided and each participant wrote down one thing that they would do to improve their waste management. If everyone of us makes a small change to be more Resource Smart, it will have a big impact on the health of our planet.

One way that we can be more Resource Smart is to replace plastic wrap with beeswax wraps. Staff and students were offered the opportunity to participate in a workshop to make their own wrap. It was a sticky but fun experience that would not have been possible without the fabulous Laura Morley from our Art Department.  Thank you Laura.
