From The Principals

Important updates from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook & Mrs Strachan

Welcome everyone to the latest newsletter! As the weather improves and we are seeing more sunshine and fine days, it is amazing to remember how much this can improve our mood. Being outside in the fresh air, exploring nature and feeling the sunshine is such a tonic after the dreary Melbourne winter. Keeping this in mind, we remind families to be SunSmart - all students and teachers will need to wear a hat outside, and we strongly encourage students to come to school already wearing sunscreen. You may like to pack sunscreen for your child to reapply during the day, especially if it is a sport day.

Friendology parent session

Thank you to all the parents and students who logged online on Tuesday night for our Friendology Parent information session, hosted by Tyson Greenwood from URStrong. This was a fantastic event, and had great feedback from all the families who were part of it. Throughout the presentation, Tyson talked about some of the ways we can resolve friendship fires and how we can diffuse mean-on-purpose behaviours with quick comebacks. Tyson also explored the 4 Friendship Facts with parents and students.

We would love for all families to watch the presetation if they have the opportunity, and we are so lucky to have access to a recording of the webinar available for our families. It is only available until October 25th. Click here and use the password #1Ninjas to watch! We highly recommend it to any parents and carers who are looking at ways to help their child navigate friendships.

Upcoming working bees

We are so excited to announce the date for our first Working Bee of 2023. We would love to have all our green-thumbed (or not so green) community members come along on Friday 24th of November to help out with some much needed works around the grounds. We are looking for some people to help with the following jobs-

  • Restoring some of the seating in our Pirate Ship area (oiling/staining the benches)
  • Planting new plants
  • Rejuvenating the play facilities (topping up the mulch)
  • Relocating some plants (relocating to the compost or the bin!)

We will start at around 3pm and work through to 6pm (or however long people can help for). Refreshments will be provided.

Production

As excitement continues to gather around our upcoming production, students and staff have been busily continuing with rehearsals. We encourage all families to purchase tickets to the shows if you have not done so already as they are selling fast. Tickets can be purchased here https://www.trybooking.com/CLVZM

NAIDOC Medal of Excellence

We are so excited to announce that one of our students has been selected as a recipient of the NAIDOC Medal of Excellence as part of the 2023 NAIDOC Week Schools Initiative. Grace Zhang from Year 4 received one of only 25 medals awarded throughout the state for her poem submitted as part of the competition. The entries were all judged by Aboriginal Elders, Agency Delegates and other members of the community. Congratulations Grace, we look forward to acknowledging you at our next whole school assembly!

Have a look at her winning poem below.

Well Done and Thank You

Thank you to our 2023 Foundation team for hosting the 2024 Information Night last night. The parents of the 2024 Foundation Students were totally engaged. We look forward to the afternoon session on the 17th November for those parents who could not make it last night.

Thank you to Mr Clinton Walsh for his continued focus on making sure our students have the opportunity to participate in a range of different sports. Congratulations to the students who have reached Division and well done to the Athletics team for their impressive results. Refer to the Specialist page for some exciting information.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, and we look forward to seeing you at, 'What a Knight!'
