Home Reading

During his recent visit to Mackellar Primary School, we were fortunate to have Literacy expert, Stephen Graham, run an information session for parents on home reading.  It was great to hear from Stephen about the importance of reading at home, and the vital role parents and carers play in supporting their child's reading development.

During the information session, Stephen spoke about the importance of developing 'Balanced Readers' at Mackellar Primary School - that is, students who decode, read with fluency and phrasing and comprehend what they are reading across a wide range of text types. As such, students will bring home books to read at home that are two levels below their classroom working level, to enable them to consolidate their reading skills and feel confident in their reading at home.

If you would like further information about how you can best support your child's reading at home, please feel free to speak to their classroom teacher.
