STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Team A + B Debating

On Wednesday the 1st of November, Chilwell's 2 debating teams held the final round of the regular debating season in the amphitheatre.

The topic for both debates was 'Students should engage in part time work", and both teams competed against GLC's St Johns. Team A was affirmative in their debate, with first speaker being Sayuni, second was Minnie, and third was Asher. In the second debate, Team B was negative. The first speaker was April, second was Jayden, and third was James.

The debates were impromptu, which means we only had 30 minutes to brainstorm ideas and write our speeches. Team A argued about responsibility, community, and money. And Team B spoke about cost, safety, and capability.

They were both tough debates, but both of the Chilwell teams were able to come through with a win. In Team A's debate, the best speaker was Minnie and in Team B's debate, best speaker was Jayden. Thank you to everyone involved in making this possible for us.

We are proud to say both Chilwell teams have won all four of the regular season debates, so we are now off to the semi finals! Wish us luck!

Shine Blue For SIDS...

On Monday 6th of November, students were invited to purchase a temporary tattoo to fund-raise for the charity 'Rivers Gift' to spread awareness for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

On Tuesday the 7th of November each student who generously donated received a blue iced doughnut in the spirit of 'Shine Blue for SIDS'. A big thank you to Sunbakers Bakery in Barwon Heads for the generous donation of 420 doughnuts!

We managed to raise a whopping $1202.50 so thank you to everyone who made a donation, and wore their tattoos in support of River's Gift.

BATFORCE...

During Week 4 and 3 of Term 4, BATFORCE speaker Leigh Bartlett came to Chilwell Primary school to speak about empathy, being safe online, and the transition to high school for the year sixes. BATFORCE, which stands for Barwon Adolescent Task force, is an organisation devoted to improving the opportunities for young people through strengthening of networks, education, and advocacy. Leigh spoke about incredibly important things such as risk, consequence, and regret. There is no doubt that everyone learnt something in the education sessions.

The discussions that impacted me the most were the eye opening discussions that provided multiple resources to help us to adjust to the pressures of life in high school. Some of these included being capable of finding "your people" and developing healthy relationships. Through memorable tales and games, Leigh created a safe and open space for us to share our feelings and worries about school. Overall, everyone learnt a lot, it was a great experience and it prepared us for the challenges of high school to come.

Daniel Lim In Elvis!

Chilwell is very excited to announce one of our students will be playing the role of young Elvis in the upcoming theatre performance 'Elvis - A Musical Revolution'

Daniel Lim from 6MG has spent nearly 2 weeks rehearsing in Sydney at end of Term 3 and another week in Melbourne before shows started.

He was lucky to be selected to perform on opening night. (He shares the role of Young Elvis with 3 other children, so they do 2 shows each a week).

Daniel has had to learn to speak in a southern American accent. He was even trained by the same dialect coach that trained Austin Butler, who plays Elvis in the recent movie!

By the time this newsletter is published he will have already done 6 shows. Daniels performance dates for November have been released, (Please see image below for Daniels specific performance night) if you are interesting in supporting him, tickets are available via the link below.
