As we draw an end to the school year, I would like to thank the student's staff and coaches that have continued to support our Term 4 afterschool program. As it is difficult to schedule with the exams being in the college gym, we have made the best of the situation we have. A huge thank-you to our tennis coach Raku Shimokawa, who is moving on from Dane Nebal Tennis Academy. Coach Raku has been coaching our students for 3 years now, and he is very popular with them.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Coach Rake all the very best at the new Tennis Club.
International Day of People with Disabilities
To celebrate International Day of People with Disabilities, I was lucky enough to attend on behalf of Wyndham Central College, Access for all Abilities and Reclink’s celebration breakfast. The session celebrated diversity, inclusion, and the remarkable achievements of individuals with disabilities in sport and active recreation. In the session I heard from guest speakers Carol Cook, a 3-time Gold Medal Paralympian, Ben Pettingull a Spartan Obstacle Course racer and Mike Rolls a para golfer, who all shared their inspirational Journeys.
Skateboarding Day at WCC
Again Wyndham Central College was successful in a grant application and therefore we had another funded Skateboarding day, that the Year 7 and 8 students participated in. Thanks to the Year 7 and 8 teams for organising the students, they had a BLAST! The session was funded by Crimestoppers and provided by the YMCA, we are very grateful for their support!
Volleyball Victoria Program
Wyndham Central College students had the opportunity to volunteer to help run a Volleyball Victoria program, Primary Schools Volleyball Cup. Mr Ito and I took out 28 students across different year levels to support the event. These students volunteered their time to support this program, the first to be held in the West and the first supported by students and not officials.
I cannot speak more highly of the students and their leadership on the day. They helped set up, they had to learn the modified rules, umpire the games, collate the results, organize finals, present the medals and help pack up at the end. They worked very hard all day, hardly had any breaks and the feedback was how, AMAZING they all were.
Team Sport 4 All
I was privileged to attended the launch of Team sports 4 last month. Team Sports 4 All believe that no child should miss out on the opportunity to play team sport. They assist families who are experiencing financial hardship; due to their situation they cannot afford to pay for the costs to have their children involved in community team sport. They meet the families, connect them with a club and team, we pay for the children’s fees, the uniform costs and most importantly give ongoing support via our team to encourage long term participation. We look forward to working with them in the future to support the students at Wyndham Central College
Colour Run
After a lot of stressing over the weather on the day we finally got there and what a great day! The fun and laughter from the session was AMAZING. Thanks very much to all those involved in making the day a success. I would also like to mention a big thanks to School Sport Victoria who provided the opportunity through a grant
Activity Days
And we are not finished yet! A reminder to the students who are participating in the Adventure Park excursion on Monday the 18th of June, to being bathers, towels sunscreen, food, drink etc for the day. We will have a limited free BBQ for students to snack on for the day. Please be at school on time, as the quicker we get organised, the more time we have at the park.
On the 19th of December we have the Werribee Pool day. Students who will be at school, must attend this event. This is no cost to the event, and students don’t have to get into the water, but we are all walking down. If you do want to have a swim, you must have bathers to enter the water.
Looking forward to reporting back on these events next year!
