Literacy Celebrations at Westgrove

This newsletter, we are celebrating some amazing literacy work from the Year 1!

Reading

The Year Ones have been looking at Pamela Allen stories as an author study. They have looked at her stories and have focused on summarising using and retelling the story in their own words. They have been trying to the find the most important parts of a story, using ‘Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then’ to document their thinking.

Writing

The Year Ones have been connecting their thinking from reading into their writing, using Pamela Allen writing style as inspiration. They have been focusing on narratives and in particular, how to engage your reader through dialogue, stretching out the problem, onomatopoeia and using questions.
