This week, our Year 4 students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, where they explored a variety of Australian plants and vegetation environments. Through hands on learning experiences, students discovered how different environments support people, animals and plants, and why it is important to care for our natural world.
Students also learned about the deep connection the Bunurong people have with the land and how Aboriginal peoples have cared for Country for thousands of years. This experience helped students develop a greater appreciation for the importance of protecting and respecting the unique environments we share.
A reminder that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday 25 June. Students are encouraged to attend with their families to celebrate their successes and reflect on their next learning goals. If you have not yet made an appointment, please make a time through PAM or contact the School office.
As Term 2 draws to a close, we thank families for their ongoing support throughout the semester. Term 2 concludes on Friday 26 June, and we look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 on Tuesday 14 July. We wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break.
Learning for Year 4
Religious Education:
Next Week in Religious Education: Students will explore how environments support people, animals and plants, and how we are called to care for God’s creation responsibly. They will create a diorama of a vegetation environment, explain its important features, and describe why healthy environments matter. Students will also connect their learning to Proverbs 31:8–9, reflecting on how we can use our voices and actions to care for others and protect the world God has entrusted to us.
English:
Next week in English, students will continue developing their factual recount writing skills by planning and writing a conclusion. They will learn how to summarise the key points of their recount and provide a clear ending using appropriate language and text features.
Mathematics:
Next Week in Mathematics, students will learn how to collect and organise data using frequency tables and represent their findings using column graphs with a non-unit scale. They will practise interpreting and displaying data clearly to communicate information effectively.
Integrated Curriculum:
Next Week in Integrated Studies, students will continue exploring how environments support people, animals and plants while considering how we are called to care for God’s creation. Integrating their learning with Religious Education, students will create persuasive eco-action posters that encourage others to protect and care for the environment in responsible and meaningful ways.
Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will be reviewing and revising the signs they have learned throughout Term 2. Students will continue developing their understanding of how facial expressions and body language add meaning to signs, including using head movements to show opposites and eyebrow movements to indicate different types of questions. Through a range of engaging activities and games, students will build confidence in using these important features to communicate more clearly and effectively in Auslan.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next Week in Personal and Social Learning, students will learn to identify which problems are serious enough to require help from a trusted adult and discuss why seeking support is important. They will also explore the difference between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country and create their own Acknowledgement of Country to show respect for Aboriginal peoples and the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and learn.
