Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Grade 3 Families,

In Week 9, Grade 3 students continued applying their learning across all curriculum areas. In Religious Education, they explored ways to support and serve others through acts of compassion and justice. In English, students developed their literacy skills through reading, writing, grammar, handwriting, typing and poetry activities. In Mathematics, they strengthened their understanding of multiplication and division, focusing on facts for 5 and 10. In Integrated Curriculum, students built their map‑reading and directional skills using maps and compasses. In Auslan, students were assessed on their ability to use eye gaze, body orientation and pointing to communicate instructions effectively. In Social and Emotional Learning, they investigated responsible decision‑making and problem‑solving using the “Roads and Roundabouts” model.

Parent Teacher Interviews Thursday, 25 June 2026, with 10-minute appointments scheduled for each student.

Learning for Next Week (Week 10)

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students will review their understanding of Human Dignity by exploring where, how, and why it is evident in their everyday lives. They will reflect on ways people demonstrate respect, compassion, and care for others, and make connections between these actions and the importance of valuing every person.

English:

In English, students will continue developing their handwriting, typing, grammar, reading, vocabulary, and writing skills. They will practise diagonal joins from ‘a’ and improve their typing accuracy and speed. Students will identify the main clauses and coordinating conjunctions in compound sentences, build reading fluency through accurate and expressive reading, and respond to questions about the class poem. They will expand and combine sentences using a range of language features and conjunctions, while also exploring rhyme and syllable patterns in poetry. Students will generate rhyming words and plan, write, edit, and publish their own poems. Their poem's will be the Ant's next journey - where will it take them!

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students will develop their understanding of multiplication by exploring doubling in the hundreds. They will practise finding two times a number, such as doubling 300 to make 600, while reinforcing their understanding of place value. Through hands-on activities using number cards, MAB materials, and number expanders, students will use multiplication language and strategies to build confidence in their multiplicative thinking.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Integrated Studies, students will complete a post-assessment to demonstrate their learning about world geography, directional language, and the similarities and differences between Australia and Indonesia. This assessment will provide students with an opportunity to showcase their understanding of maps, location, and key geographical and cultural features studied throughout the unit.

Auslan:

In Auslan, students will consolidate their learning from Units 3 and 4 by revising previously learnt signs through engaging and interactive games. Activities such as Simon Says, Telephone Game, and Rob the Nest will provide opportunities for students to practise their signing skills, build confidence, and strengthen their understanding of Auslan vocabulary and communication.

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social and Emotional Learning, students will conclude their learning about problem-solving by exploring the importance of making thoughtful choices. They will discuss why it is important to consider the possible consequences of their decisions and reflect on how their choices can impact themselves and others.

Thursday3A, 3B & 3D have Visual Art
Friday

What you can do at home:

  • Encourage your child to read poems aloud, discuss rhyme patterns and vocabulary, and create their own rhyming words and poems. Support them in writing detailed sentences using conjunctions such as because, but, and so.
  • Practise doubling numbers in the hundreds and discuss how place value helps solve multiplication problems. Encourage your child to explain their thinking when solving maths questions.
  • Explore maps together and discuss directions, locations, and features of different countries. Ask your child to share what they have learnt about Australia, Indonesia, and world geography.
  • Talk with your child about making respectful and responsible choices. Encourage them to consider how their actions affect others and identify ways they can show kindness, compassion, and respect in everyday situations.

Important Reminders:

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a nationwide problem-solving contest designed to challenge students to apply their mathematical thinking in real-world and unfamiliar contexts. Students are presented with a series of increasingly difficult, multiple-choice questions that assess reasoning, logic, and problem-solving skills rather than just routine calculations. Participation in the competition encourages perseverance, creative thinking, and confidence in mathematics, as students learn to approach problems from different angles and apply a range of strategies. It is a valuable opportunity for students to extend their mathematical abilities beyond the classroom.

Please let the classroom teachers know by 20th June 2026 or earlier so we can do the registration if you would like your child to compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).

Parent - Teacher Interviews

Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on Thursday, 25 June 2026, with 10-minute appointments scheduled for each student. Student reports will be available prior to the interviews, giving families the opportunity to review and reflect on their child’s learning and progress before meeting with their teacher.

To help make the most of this valuable discussion, parents may like to consider questions such as:

  • How is my child progressing in their learning?
  • How does my child interact with peers and develop friendships?
  • How does my child respond to challenges and demonstrate resilience?
  • What are my child’s key strengths and areas for growth?
  • How can we best support learning at home?
  • Are there any social or emotional goals we can work on together?

We look forward to meeting with you to celebrate your child’s achievements and discuss their continued growth and development.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Ephesus Team
